Fish Tales (pinball)
''Fish Tales'' is a fishing-themed pinball game released by Williams in 1992. It is one of the top 20 most produced pinball machines of all time, selling more than 13,000 units. Overview The general goal is to catch as many fish and tell the most outlandish stories about their size possible. The machine's backglass is topped with a plastic fish that thrashes its tail when the player achieves certain goals, and the players launches balls with an autoplunger shaped like a fishing rod. ''Fish Tales'' introduced flippers with lightning bolts on them that were believed to be shorter than other Williams flippers of the time. While seemingly minor, an extra gap creates a far greater ball control challenge for the player. As such, this enhancement was only added to a few pinball titles before being abandoned. WMS Industries, Inc. was an American electronic gaming and amusement manufacturer in Enterprise, Nevada. It was merged into Light & Wonder, Scientific Games in 2016. WMS's predecessor was the Williams Manufacturing Company, founded in 1943 by Harry E. Williams. However, the company that became WMS Industries was formally founded in 1974 as Williams Electronics, Inc. Williams initially was a manufacturer of pinball machines. Mark Ritchie (pinball Designer)
Mark Ritchie (born August 20, 1958) is an American pinball designer and video game producer. He is best known for his successful pinball designs from 1982-1996. He has continued to work in the coin-operated amusement industry, currently serving as production coordinator for Raw Thrills, Inc. / Play Mechanix, Inc. Mark is the younger brother of fellow pinball designer Steve Ritchie. Early life Ritchie first began playing pinball at local bowling alleys and arcades as a child. The first machine he played seriously was ''Captain Fantastic'', which his brother had borrowed from Atari, where he worked. Career Atari, Inc. (1976 - 1979) Ritchie's first job in the pinball industry was with Atari, Inc. in 1976. His first position was as an assembler at Atari's Santa Clara, California video game production facility. Chris Granner
Christopher P. Granner (born 1957 in Mt. Kisco, New York) is a freelance music composer, best known for composing music for video games and pinball games. Career and biography Granner's father is organist/pianist, so he was interested in music since his childhood. He studied composition and computer sound/music at University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign under prolific musicians Ben Johnston (composer), Ben Johnston, Herbert Brün, Salvatore Martirano and Scott Wyatt. After finishing university with a Bachelor of Music and a Master of Fine Arts in music composition he moved to Evanston, Illinois, Evanston-located Northwestern University's music lab. Pinball games are a family of games in which a ball is propelled into a specially designed table where it bounces off various obstacles, scoring points either en route or when it comes to rest. Historically the board was studded with nails called 'pins' and had hollows or pockets which scored points if the ball came to rest in them. Today, pinball is most commonly an arcade game in which the ball is fired into a specially designed cabinet known as a pinball machine, hitting various lights, bumpers, ramps, and other targets depending on its design. ''The Pinball Arcade'' is a pinball video game developed by FarSight Studios. The game is a simulated collection of 100 real pinball tables licensed by Gottlieb, Alvin G. and Company, and Stern Pinball, a company which also owns the rights of machines from Data East and Sega Pinball. ''Pinball FX 3'' is a pinball simulator video game developed and published by Zen Studios and is the sequel to ''Pinball FX 2''. It was released for Microsoft Windows, Xbox One, PlayStation 4 in September 2017 and then released for the Nintendo Switch in December 2017. A follow-up called ''Pinball FX'' was released in February 16, 2023.
