The first Sirisena cabinet was a Cabinet of Sri Lanka, central government of Sri Lanka led by President of Sri Lanka, President Maithripala Sirisena. The Minister of Defence is an appointment in the Cabinet of Sri Lanka who is responsible for the implementation of the Government of Sri Lankas defence policy and the headquarters of the Sri Lankan Armed Forces. The post was first created in 1947 as Minister of External Affairs and Defence, in 1978 the Ministry of External Affairs and Defence separated into two ministries, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Defence. John Amaratunga
John Anthony Emmanuel Amaratunga ( Sinhala: ජෝන් ඇන්තනී එමානුවෙල් අමරතුංග) (born 21 May 1940) is a Sri Lankan politician and lawyer. He is a representative of Gampaha District for the United National Party in the Parliament of Sri Lanka. He resides in Kandana.He was the minister Tourism Development, Christian Religious Affairs and Land in the United National Party led government. He also held the powerful ministry of Interior in the 2001-2004 United National Party government. Early life Educated at De Mazenod College, Kandana and at Saint Joseph's College, Colombo. He studied law at the Ceylon Law College and became a proctor in July 1966. He set up his legal practice in Negombo, becoming a Notary Public and a Justice of the Peace and Unofficial magistrate. Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena
Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena (born 10 October 1945) is a Sri Lankan politician and land proprietor. He was the Speaker of the Parliament of Sri Lanka from 2020 to 2024. Political career He first entered parliament in 1983 as part of the Hakmana United National Party and has been active in politics for more than 30 years. Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena was a young MP when he openly criticised the 1987 Indo-Sri Lanka Accord for establishing a new provincial councils system in Sri Lanka. He along with Chandrakumara Wijeya Gunawardena, the member for Kamburupitiya voted against the bill in Parliament becoming the only two government members who voted against it.
