Aurora First United Methodist Church, also known as the First United Methodist Church of Aurora and Aurora Methodist Episcopal Church, is a historic Methodist church located at 304 Third Street in Aurora An aurora ( aurorae or auroras), also commonly known as the northern lights (aurora borealis) or southern lights (aurora australis), is a natural light display in Earth's sky, predominantly observed in high-latitude regions (around the Arc ..., Dearborn County, Indiana. It was built between about 1855 and 1862, and is a two-story, gable front, Greek Revival architecture, Greek Revival style brick building. It measures 45 feet, 6 inches, wide and 95 feet deep. A limestone front was added to the original building in 1903 and one-story rear addition built between 1885 and 1888. The church was remodeled in 1954. Aurora, Indiana
Aurora is a city in Dearborn County, Indiana, United States. The population was 3,479 at the 2020 census. Geography According to the 2010 census, Aurora has a total area of , of which (or 89.41%) is land and (or 10.59%) is water. History Aurora was platted in 1819. It was named for Aurora, the goddess of dawn in Roman mythology. Aurora was incorporated as a town in 1822 and became a city in 1848, though some sources say 1845. Aurora is known for its historic downtown area and the ornate Hillforest mansion built for Thomas Gaff who earned his fortune shipping goods on the Ohio River by steamboat. The mansion was designed by architect Isaiah Rogers and was completed in 1855 in the Italian Renaissance style. The design is symmetrical. Details include deep overhangs, arched windows and balconies and porches. Hillforest was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1992.
