The first government of Mohamed Ould Bilal was the 16th government of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, in office between 8 August 2020 and 29 March 2022. It was a coalition between the Union for the Republic and the Union for Democracy and Progress, whose leader Naha Mint Mouknass was the only member representing the party. Background The government was formed after Prime Minister Ismail Ould Bedde Ould Cheikh Sidiya resigned with his government on 6 August 2020 amid an investigation into alleged corruption during the government of the previous President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz, with several current ministers were questioned about suspected graft that occurred on their watch while serving in senior positions during Abdel Aziz's rule. Mohamed Ould Bilal (; born in 1963, Rosso), is a Mauritanian politician serving as the prime minister of Mauritania since 6 August 2020. Career Prime minister Prior to become the new Prime Minister Mohamed Ould Bilal worked as the head of the national water agency. After an investigation on the activities of the former head of state Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz former Prime Minister Ismail Ould Bedda Ould Cheikh Sidiya and the entire administration resigned. Ismaïl Ould Cheikh Ahmed ( ar, إسماعيل ولد الشيخ أحمد; born 9 November 1960, in Nouakchott) is a Mauritanian diplomat and politician. Graft, as understood in American English, is a form of political corruption defined as the unscrupulous use of a politician's authority for personal gain. Political graft occurs when funds intended for public projects are intentionally misdirected in order to maximize the benefits to private interests. Political graft functions when the public officer is directed to purchase goods or services from a specific private interest at a cost far above regular market rates. Africanews is a French multilingual news network, formerly headquartered in Pointe-Noire, Republic of the Congo. Budget concerns caused by the coronavirus forced the channel to permanently shift operations to a small newsroom at the headquarters of sister channel Euronews in Lyon, France. Ismail Ould Bedde Ould Cheikh Sidiya (born 17 March 1961) is a Mauritanian politician who served as the 15th Prime Minister of Mauritania from 5 August 2019 to 6 August 2020. He headed the Ministry of Housing, Town Planning and Regional Development from 2009 to 2014, as well as once being president of the Nouadhibou Free Zone. He was one of the founding members of the Union for the Republic party.
