Fionn Gibbons (born 12 June 2002) is an Irish rugby union player who plays as a centre for United Rugby Championship club Munster. Munster Gibbons joined year one of Munster's academy ahead of the 2022–23 season, and made his senior competitive debut for the province in their 2022–23 United Rugby Championship round four fixture against rivals Connacht on 7 October 2022, coming on as a 67th minute replacement for Ben Healy in Munster's 20–11 away defeat. Ireland Gibbons was a grand slam winner with Ireland under-20s in 2022, starting four of the five matches and scoring three tries, before also starting four matches and scoring three tries for the under-20s during the U20 Summer Series in the same year. Grand Slam (rugby Union)
In rugby union, a Grand Slam occurs when one team in the Six Nations Championship (or its Five Nations predecessor) beats all the others during one year's competition. This has been achieved 42 times in total, for the first time by Wales in 1908, and most recently by the Irish team in 2023. The team with the most Grand Slams is England with 13. It can also apply to the U20 and Women's Six Nations Championships. In another context, a Grand Slam tour refers to a touring side – South Africa, Australia or New Zealand – which plays fixtures against all four home nations (England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales) during their tour. In rugby union, the Triple Crown is an honour contested annually by the " Home Nations" – i.e. England, Ireland, Scotland, and Wales who compete within the larger Six Nations Championship. If any one of these teams defeat all three other teams, they win the Triple Crown.
