Fiona Brown (golfer)
Fiona Mary Haddon Brown (later Champness, born 13 February 1974) was an English amateur golfer. She won the 1994 English Women's Open Amateur Stroke Play Championship and the 1999 English Women's Amateur Championship. She played in the Curtis Cup in 1998 and 2000. Golf career Brown won the English girls championship at Coventry in 1992, beating Lorna Nicholson 2&1 in the final. She played for England in the Girls Home Internationals in 1991 and 1992. In 1994 Brown, aged 20, won the English Women's Open Amateur Stroke Play Championship at Ferndown, four strokes ahead of Kate Egford and Simone Morgan. In 1995 she won the Welsh Women's Open Stroke Play Championship at Newport, beating Alison Rose in a playoff. She was a runner-up in the event the following year, 1996, a stroke behind Emma Duggleby. Women's Home Internationals
The Women's Home Internationals were an amateur team golf championship for women contested between the four Home Nations of England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland, where Ireland was represented by the whole island of Ireland on an All-Ireland basis. After the Ladies' Golf Union, the former governing body for women's golf in Great Britain and Ireland, merged into The R&A in 2016, The R&A took over organisation of the event. The match was played annually and the venue cycled between the four nations. In 2022 the match was replaced by a combined Women's and Men's Home Internationals. The event started in 1905 when Mr. T. The 1999 European Ladies' Team Championship took place 6–10 July at Golf de Saint Germain in Saint-Germain-en-Laye, France. It was the 21st women's golf amateur European Ladies' Team Championship. Venue The course, situated 25 kilometres west of the city center of Paris, France, was designed by Harry Colt and opened in 1922. The championship course was set up with par 72. Format All participating teams played two qualification rounds of stroke-play with six players, counted the five best scores for each team. The 1997 European Ladies' Team Championship took place 9–13 July at Nordcenter Golf & Country Club in Åminnefors, Finland. It was the 20th women's golf amateur European Ladies' Team Championship. Venue The hosting club was founded in 1988. Its first course, the Fream course, situated in Åminnefors, close to Pohja in the province of Southern Finland and part of the Uusimaa region, 70 kilometres west of Helsinki, Finland, was designed by architect Ronald Fream. European Ladies' Team Championship
The European Ladies' Team Championship is a European amateur team golf championship for women organised by the European Golf Association. The inaugural event was held in 1959. It was played in odd-numbered years from 1959 to 2007 and has been played annually since 2008 (with the exception of 2012). Format Currently, the championship is contested by up to 20 teams, each of 6 players. The format consists of two rounds of strokeplay, out of which the five lowest scores from each team's six players will count each day. The total addition of the five lowest scores will constitute the team's score and determine the teams qualified for the last three rounds of matchplay. Robin Weiss (golfer)
Robert Anthony "Robin" Weiss (born 20 February 1940) is a British molecular biologist, Professor of Viral Oncology at University College London and a member of the Nuffield Council on Bioethics. Research His research has focussed on retroviruses, initially as a means of understanding T-cell leukemia and other cancers, which may be caused by retroviruses. 2000 Curtis Cup
The 31st Curtis Cup Match was played on 24 and 25 June 2000 at Ganton Golf Club in Ganton, North Yorkshire, England. The United States won 10 to 8. Format The contest was a two-day competition, with three foursomes and six singles matches on each day, a total of 18 points. Each of the 18 matches was worth one point in the larger team competition. If a match was all square after the 18th hole extra holes were not played. Rather, each side earned a point toward their team total. The team that accumulated at least 9 points won the competition. In the event of a tie, the current holder retained the Cup. Commonwealth Trophy
The Astor Trophy is a women's team golf tournament between teams of amateurs golfers from Great Britain and Ireland, Australia, Canada, New Zealand and South Africa. It has been played every four years since 1959. From its foundation until 2007 it was called the Commonwealth Trophy. South Africa did not compete from 1963 to 1991. Vagliano Trophy
The Vagliano Trophy is a biennial women's amateur golf tournament. It is co-organised by The R&A and the European Golf Association and is contested by teams representing "Great Britain and Ireland" and the "Continent of Europe". It is played in odd-numbered years; the Curtis Cup being played in even-numbered years. The event started in 1931 as a match between Great Britain and France. It was played annually from 1931 to 1939 and from 1947 to 1949, before becoming a biennial event from 1949 to 1957. Britain won 15 of the 16 matches with the 1934 match being tied. From 1949 to 1957 Great Britain had also played a biennial match against Belgium. In 1959 the two matches were replaced by one with Britain playing a team representing the Continent of Europe, the Vagliano Trophy being used for the new event.
