Finnmarksløpet is a long distance sled dog race organized every year since 1981 in Finnmark, Norway. Finnmarksløpet is the longest sled race in Europe. Petter Karlsson (musher)
Petter Karlsson (born 6 September 1975) is a Swedish Mushing, musher and two-time world champion in long-distance sled dog racing. He has won the Finnmarksløpet dog sled race four times (2016, 2018, 2023 and 2024). In 2016, he was the first non-Norwegian to achieve this victory. Sporting career Karlsson's mushing career began in the late 1990s. In 2005 he won the European Championship in Hamar, Norway. Petter has mainly competed in long-distance races for decades. He won the La Grande Odyssée, La Grande Odyssée Savoie Mont Blanc in 2008 with a finish time of 36:03:51. In 2016, he took part in the Europe's longest sled dog race, the Finnmarksløpet, for the first time. The Bergebyløpet N70 is an annual long-distance sled dog race held in the former municipality of Nord-Varanger, in Finnmark, Norway since 2003. The Bergebyløpet N70 is considered the world's northernmost long-distance sled dog race, based on the race's latitude. The race is also the only mainland sled dog race in the world that never goes south of the 70th parallel north. History The Bergebyløpet N70 was established in 2003. Bjørnar Andersen (born 1978), commonly Bjornar in English language, English is a Norway, Norwegian refrigerator mechanic and mushing, dog musher who has won all the long-distance dogsled racing, dog sled races in Norway, and placed fourth in the 2005 Iditarod across the U.S. state of Alaska, in his rookie outing. Andersen was born in 1978, and began competing in dog sled races in 1991. He is the nephew of Robert Sørlie, the 2003 and 2005 Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race champion, and together with Kjetil Backen they form Team Norway. Robert Walter Sørlie (born 15 February 1958), (pronounced: /sir-lee/) commonly "Sorlie" in English, is a two-time Iditarod champion Norwegian dog musher and dog sled racer from Hurdal Municipality. Together with Kjetil Backen and his nephew, Bjørnar Andersen, he forms " Team Norway", the most well-known Norwegian dog mushing team.
