Finch (TTC)
Finch is the northern terminus subway station of the eastern section of Line 1 Yonge–University in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It is located under Yonge Street, north of Finch Avenue. Finch is the busiest TTC bus terminal and the sixth-busiest subway station, serving approximately people per day. The station connects with other transit agencies at the adjoining Finch Bus Terminal. History The station was opened on March 29, 1974, in what was then the Borough of North York, by provincial premier Bill Davis and borough mayor Mel Lastman. It replaced as the northern terminus of the line. Houses which once fronted the station along Yonge Street were demolished. Finch was created using the cut-and-cover technique as a way to save money. Steeles Avenue
Steeles Avenue is an east–west street that stretches across the western and central Greater Toronto Area in Ontario, Canada. Running from Appleby Line in Milton in the west to the Scarborough-Pickering Townline in the east, where it continues east into Durham Region as Taunton Road, which itself extends across the length of Durham Region to its boundary with Northumberland County. It is most notable for being the north city limit of Toronto where it borders the southern limit of York Region along its eastern half. York Region refers to Steeles Avenue as York Regional Road 95 but this use is only internal and there are no signs posted; as the street borders and is maintained by the City of Toronto. Pioneer Village is a List of Toronto subway stations, subway station on the Line 1 Yonge–University of the Toronto subway. It is located under the intersection of Northwest Gate and Steeles Avenue, at the city boundaries of Toronto and Vaughan, Ontario, Canada. Finch West is a List of Toronto subway stations, rapid transit and future light rail station on the Line 1 Yonge–University of the Toronto subway. It is located under Keele Street, north of Finch Avenue, Finch Avenue West. When Line 6 Finch West opens, it will serve as the eastern terminus of that line. Description The station is underground and parallel to Keele Street just north of Finch Avenue West. Nearby landmarks include Fountainhead Park. Industrial areas lie to the east, James Cardinal McGuigan Catholic High School to the west and York University is to the northwest, served by the York University station, next station north on the line.
