The Filmfare Awards are annual awards that honour artistic and technical excellence in the Indian cinema.Al The Filmfare ceremony is one of the most famous film events in India. The awards were introduced by Filmfare magazine of The Times Group in 1954, the same year as the National Film Awards. They were initially referred to as the "Clare Awards" or "The Clares" after Clare Mendonça, the editor of ''The Times of India'' and modelled after the Academy Awards. A dual voting system was developed in 1956. Under this system, in contrast to the National Film Awards, which are decided by a panel appointed by the Indian Government, the Filmfare Awards are voted on by both the public and a committee of experts. Filmfare Awards South
The Filmfare Awards South are annual awards that honour artistic and technical excellence in the Telugu cinema, Tamil cinema, Malayalam cinema and Kannada cinema. They are presented by ''Filmfare'' magazine of The Times Group. When it was introduced in 1954, the Filmfare Awards initially only recognized achievements in the Hindi cinema. In 1964 the awards were extended to Telugu language, Telugu, Tamil cinema, Tamil, Cinema of West Bengal, Bengali and Marathi cinema, Marathi languages. Malayalam cinema was included in the awards in 1967 and Kannada cinema followed in 1970. Each industry is given its own set of creative awards in annual ceremonies that have predominantly been held in Chennai and Hyderabad. Shabana Azmi
Shabana Azmi (born 18 September 1950) is an Indian actress of film, television and theatre. Her career in the Hindi cinema, Hindi film industry has spanned Shabana Azmi filmography, over 160 films, mostly within independent and neorealist parallel cinema, though her work extended to mainstream films as well as a number of international projects. 63rd Filmfare Awards
The 63rd Filmfare Awards ceremony, presented by the Filmfare Magazine, honored the best Hindi language Indian films of 2017. The ceremony was held on 20 January 2018 and hosted by Shah Rukh Khan, Karan Johar, Ayushmann Khurrana and Parineeti Chopra. ''Jagga Jasoos'' and '' Secret Superstar'' led the ceremony with 10 nominations each, followed by ''Tumhari Sulu'' with 9 nominations. ''Jagga Jasoos'' won 4 awards, including Best Music Director (for Pritam) and Best Lyricist (for Amitabh Bhattacharya for "Ullu Ka Pattha"), thus becoming the most-awarded film at the ceremony. Clare Mendonça
Clare Mendonça (1910–1953) was a prominent film journalist in India, whose film reviews had a large readership. After her early death, she was honoured when the Clare Award, now the Filmfare Award, was instituted in 1954. Career Mendonça was a film critic with the ''Evening News of India'' newspaper, the evening partner of the ''Times of India'' Group around 1931, and later with ''The Times of India'' from 1933 to 1953. National Film Awards
The National Film Awards are awards for artistic and technical merit given for "Excellence within the Cinema of India, Indian film industry". Established in 1954, it has been administered, along with the International Film Festival of India and the Indian Panorama, by the Indian government's Directorate of Film Festivals from 1973 until 2020, and by the National Film Development Corporation of India, NFDC since 2021.
