FilmRise is an American media company, headquartered in New York City, that operates a film and television studio and a free ad-supported streaming television (FAST) network. As of November 2024, the FilmRise app has reported more than 31.5 million downloads in the U.S. and can be seen on Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Comcast, iOS, Android, Apple, Vizio, among many other platforms. FilmRise also syndicates its own digital linear channels to platforms including The Roku Channel, Samsung TV Plus, Amazon Freevee and Vizio. The company was founded in 2012 by producer/financiers Danny Fisher, Jack Fisher, and Alan Klingenstein. FilmRise focuses on acquiring content that is either under the radar or significantly underestimated by the industry. The Roku Channel is an over-the-top video streaming service available in the U.S., Canada, Mexico and the UK. The service was launched in 2017, and is owned and operated by Roku, Inc. It is the most popular free ad-supported streaming television (FAST) service in the U.S., reportedly reaching 145 million people, as of 2024. The Roku Channel includes over 500 free channels, more than 80,000 free movies and shows, and access to paid content. ''Forensic Files'', originally known as ''Medical Detectives'', is an American documentary television program that reveals how forensic science is used to solve violent crimes, mysterious accidents, and outbreaks of illness. The show was originally broadcast on TLC. It is narrated by Peter Thomas, produced by Medstar Television, and distributed by FilmRise, in association with truTV Original Productions. It broadcast 406 episodes from its debut on TLC in 1996 until its final episode in 2011. Reruns shown on HLN were initially retitled ''Mystery Detectives'' before settling on the main title of the show in 2014. Alan Klingenstein (born 1954) is an American corporate and securities attorney, investment banker, film distributor, and film producer. His feature film '' Two Family House'' won the Audience Award at the 2000 Sundance Film Festival. Another feature film, '' Runaway'', premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival, the Toronto International Film Festival, and won Best Dramatic Feature at the 2005 Austin Film Festival. His documentary '' Trumbo'' was awarded the National Board of Review's Freedom of Expression Award in 2008. Klingenstein is the chairman of FilmRise, a film and television distribution company. ''Unsolved Mysteries'' is an American mystery documentary television series, created by John Cosgrove and Terry Dunn Meurer. Documenting cold cases and paranormal phenomena, it began as a series of seven specials, presented by Raymond Burr, Karl Malden, and Robert Stack, beginning on NBC on January 20, 1987, becoming a full-fledged series on October 5, 1988, hosted by Stack. After nine seasons on NBC, the series moved to CBS for its 10th season on November 13, 1997. Free advertising-supported streaming television (FAST) is a category of streaming television services which offer traditional linear television programming ("live TV") and studio-produced movies without a paid subscription, funded exclusively by advertising akin to free-to-air TV stations. Platforms following this model include Pluto TV, Rakuten TV (not available in the United States, but added internationally), The Roku Channel, Samsung TV Plus, Tubi, and Xumo.
