Charles Filgate
Charles Roden Filgate (16 October 1849 – 1 September 1930) was an Irish amateur cricketer who played first-class cricket from 1869 to 1877 for Gloucestershire and Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), where he was a member. Filgate represented Ireland in three matches between 1868 and 1871. He was a right-handed batsman who made 25 first-class career appearances. He scored 563 runs with a highest score of 93 and held 18 catches. Filgate was the sixth and youngest son of William Filgate of Lissrenny (1781-1875), J.P., by his wife Sophia Juliana Penelope (1807-1866), eldest daughter of the Count De Salis. He married Clare, daughter of William Cooper, on 27 February 1906. He was educated at Cheltenham College and the Inner Temple (1869). Eddie Filgate
Edward Filgate (16 September 1915 – 19 January 2017) was an Irish Fianna Fáil politician who served for five years as Teachta Dála (TD) for the Louth constituency. He was first elected to the 21st Dáil at the 1977 general election. He was re-elected twice, at the 1981 and the February 1982 general elections. He did not contest the November 1982 general election. He and his wife, Elish, had five children. Elish died in 1989. One of 11 children, he lived in the township of Priorstate, in his native village of Louth, near Dundalk, next to the site of the house he grew up in. Leonard Filgate
Leonard Filgate (born August 26, 1947) is an artist and illustrator, best known for the Rip Squeak children's books and merchandise he and his wife, author Susan Yost-Filgate, created in 1997. Biography Early life and education Leonard Filgate was born August 26, 1947, in San Francisco, California. At 16, he sold his first painting. After high school, he served in the United States Merchant Marine. In 1970, Filgate began a career as an artist and illustrator. Career Filgate is a self-taught artist and illustrator. Since 1970, he has created commissioned works for private individuals, projects for the US Navy, reproductions of Japanese screens, props for a Warner Bros. Television series, and theatrical backdrops. From 1997 to 2007, he created and illustrated Rip Squeak. Filgate has illustrated five children's books and two arts books, which have sold over 500,000 copies to date.
