Fiji Trades Union Congress
The Fiji Trades Union Congress (FTUC) is a trade union organisation in Fiji that was founded in 1952 under the leadership of Pandit Ami Chandra as the Fiji Industrial Workers Congress (FIWC). As the FIWC the organisation was the third federation in Oceania, after the Australian Council of Trade Unions and the New Zealand Council of Trade Unions, to join the International Confederation of Free Trade Unions. In 1975 the FTUC's membership was 25,000. The FTUC is affiliated to the International Trade Union Confederation. Fiji, officially the Republic of Fiji, is an island country in Melanesia, part of Oceania in the South Pacific Ocean. It lies about north-northeast of New Zealand. Fiji Labour Party
The Fiji Labour Party (FLP; ),() also known as Fiji Labour, is a political party in Fiji. Most of its support is from the Indo-Fijian community, although it is officially multiracial and its first leader was an indigenous Fijian, Dr. Timoci Bavadra. The party has been elected to power twice, with Timoci Bavadra and Mahendra Chaudhry becoming prime minister in 1987 and 1999 respectively. On both occasions, the resulting government was rapidly overthrown by a coup. People's Democratic Party (Fiji)
The People's Democratic Party was a political party in Fiji. The party was proposed in January 2013 by the Fiji Trades Union Congress as a vehicle to promote the interests of workers and unions. Shortly afterwards, the Fijian regime promulgated new regulations governing the registration of political parties, which included a ban on participation by union officials. The party applied for registration in April 2013. Registration was approved on 29 May 2013. In May 2014 former trade union leader Felix Anthony was elected leader of the party, with lawyer and prominent regime critic Aman Ravindra Singh as Secretary General and Lynda Tabuya as party president. Fiji Teachers Union (FTU) is a trade union, union representing Elementary education, elementary and secondary education teachers in Fiji. The FTU was formed as a multi-racial organization. However, in 1960 the Fijian Teachers Association (FTA) was founded. The FTA limited its membership to indigenous Fijians. The International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC; ; ; ) is the world's largest trade union federation. The New Zealand Council of Trade Unions (NZCTU or CTU; ) is a national trade union centre in New Zealand. The NZCTU represents 360,000 workers, and is the largest democratic organisation in New Zealand.
