Fig 4.0 (pronounced "Figure Four") were a hardcore punk band from Leeds and Harrogate, England, formed in 1999 from the remnants of skacore act "Tinker's Rucksack". 2001 saw the release of the album ''Action Image Exchange'' which presented a series of short, sharp hardcore punk songs, characterising the band's sound. After several years as popular stars of the DIY/underground punk rock scene and growing underground success in the United States, the band split in 2004. Alderdice and Hastewell of are currently active in the band The Dauntless Elite. Coy is currently playing in the band Himself. Musical style The band have been categorised as hardcore punk, thrashcore and melodic hardcore. At times their music borders the sound of pop punk and rock and roll. Their music makes use of extremely high tempos contrasted with slower subdued ones and melodic guitar lines. Hardcore Punk
Hardcore punk (also known as simply hardcore) is a punk rock music genre and subculture that originated in the late 1970s. It is generally faster, harder, and more aggressive than other forms of punk rock. Its roots can be traced to earlier punk scenes in San Francisco and Southern California which arose as a reaction against the still predominant hippie cultural climate of the time. It was also inspired by Washington D.C. and New York punk rock and early proto-punk. Hardcore punk generally disavows commercialism, the established music industry and "anything similar to the characteristics of mainstream rock" and often addresses social and political topics with "confrontational, politically-charged lyrics." Hardcore sprouted underground scenes across the United States in the early 1980s, particularly in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Washington, D.C., Boston, and New York, as well as in Canada and the United Kingdom. Thrashcore
Thrashcore (also known as fastcore) is a fast-tempo subgenre of hardcore punk that emerged in the early 1980s. Thrashcore is essentially sped-up hardcore, often using blast beats. Songs can be very brief, and thrashcore is in many ways a less dissonant, less metallic forerunner of grindcore. The genre is sometimes associated with the skateboarder subculture.
