Fife Constabulary Pipe Band
The Police Scotland Fife Pipe Band is a Grade 1 pipe band from Fife in Scotland, established in September 2007. History The band was established in September 2007 as the Fife Constabulary Pipe Band, and was placed in the Grade 1 by the RSPBA the following February. Their first competition, at the Dunbar Highland Games in May 2008, saw them awarded first prize. In August of the same year they made their first appearance at the World Pipe Band Championships and gained entry into the Grade 1 final, having achieved second place amongst fourteen bands in the morning's qualifier round. In September 2008, the drum corps was replaced by that of the Clan Gregor Society Pipe Band, resulting in the disbandment of the Clan Gregor band. Beach Ballroom
The Beach Ballroom is an art deco building on the beach boulevard of Aberdeen, Scotland. It was built in 1926, and is a Category B listed building. It is noted for its dance floor which is supported by 1,400 steel springs. Famous acts to appear at the Beach Ballroom include the Beatles, Pink Floyd, the Who, the Small Faces, Cream, Joe Loss, Ken Mackintosh and more recently the Ordinary Boys and Twin Atlantic. The Shotts and Dykehead Caledonia Pipe Band is a grade 1 pipe band from Shotts, in the North Lanarkshire region of Scotland. The band has won the World Pipe Band Championships sixteen times. The current pipe major is Emmett Conway. History The Shotts and Dykehead Caledonia Pipe Band was formed in 1910 by Pipe Major Dugald MacFarlane. The band purchased its first uniform with kilts of the McKenzie tartan in 1914, but despite entering many competitions, the band did not attain competitive success until Pipe Major Tom McAllister took the lead role in 1929. Pipe Band
A pipe band is a musical ensemble consisting of pipers and drummers. The term pipes and drums, used by military pipe bands is also common. The most common form of pipe band consists of a section of pipers playing the Great Highland bagpipe, a section of snare drummers (often referred to as 'side drummers'), several tenor drummers and usually one, though occasionally two, bass drummers. The tenor drummers and bass drummer are referred to collectively as the 'bass section' (or in North America as the 'midsection'), and the entire drum section is collectively known as the drum corps. The band follows the direction of the pipe major; when on parade the band may be led by a drum major, who directs the band with a mace.
