John Fielden
John Fielden (17 January 1784 – 29 May 1849) was a British industrialist and Radical Member of Parliament for Oldham (1832–1847). He entered Parliament to support William Cobbett, whose election as fellow-MP for Oldham he helped to bring about. Like Cobbett, but unlike many other Radicals, he saw Radicalism as having little more in common with Whiggism than with Toryism: in the Commons he sat with the Whigs but frequently did not vote with them. Whigs and the more orthodox Whig-Radicals, therefore, thought the name of one of the machines used in his cotton-spinning business, "the self-acting mule," a highly appropriate soubriquet. Having started work in his father's cotton mill when little more than ten, he was a firm and generous supporter of the factory reform movement. Joshua Fielden (politician)
Joshua Fielden JP (8 March 1827 – 9 March 1887) of Stansfield Hall, Todmorden, was a British cotton manufacturer and Conservative politician. Early life Fielden was born in Todmorden on 8 March 1827. He was the son of the Radical politician John Fielden of Todmorden, and his first wife, Anne Grindrod of Rochdale. In 1869, Fielden's uncle Thomas died; his will (proved in 1870) divided an estate of £1.3m equally amongst his three nephews. Career After education at a Unitarian school in Switzerland, Fielden returned to England to act as his father's private secretary, and to work in the family textile firm, Fielden Brothers. He became a partner in the firm in 1852. The business was very successful and profitable, and the Fielden family dominated public life in Todmorden, controlling the town's local board and preventing the erection of a workhouse in Todmorden until the 1870s. Stuart Fielden
Stuart Fielden (born 14 September 1979) is an English former professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1990s, 2000s and 2010s. He was formerly an assistant coach for the Huddersfield Giants in the Super League, and now is a Personal trainer of Fielden Fitness in Leeds. A Great Britain international representative forward, he played his club rugby for Bradford Bulls with whom he won the 2001, 2003 and 2005 Super League Championships, 2000 and 2003 Challenge cups and World Club championships in 2002, 2004, 2006 before he moved to Wigan Warriors for a record transfer fee in 2006, winning the 2010 Super League Championship with them. Air Vice-Marshal Sir Edward Hedley "Mouse" Fielden, (4 December 1903 – 8 November 1976) was a senior Royal Air Force commander and a pilot of the Second World War. Early life He was born in Bracknell, Berkshire, on 4 December 1903, the elder son of surgeon Edward Fielden, and his wife, Maud Jennie Armstrong. He was educated at Heatherdown School, Ascot, and Malvern College where he joined the Officers' Training Corps. He obtained a short service commission with the Royal Air Force in 1924, aged 21, flying with No. 25 and then No. 23 Squadron in 1925 and 1926. He was posted to the meteorological flight at Duxford in September 1926, where he flew the flight's Hawker Woodcock. Samuel "Sam" Fielden (February 25, 1847 – February 7, 1922) was an English-born American Methodist pastor, socialist, anarchist and labor activist who was one of eight convicted in the 1886 Haymarket bombing. Thomas Fielden (1854 – 5 October 1897) was a British Conservative Party politician. He was born at Todmorden, Lancashire, in 1854, eldest son of Joshua Fielden. His father, his grandfather John Fielden of Todmorden, and brother Edward Brocklehurst Fielden were also Members of Parliament. Thomas Perceval Fielden (24 November 1883 – 15 September 1974) was a British pianist and music teacher. He was director of music at three public schools (Hurstpierpoint College, Fettes and Charterhouse) and was Professor of Pianoforte at the Royal College of Music for over 30 years. He wrote on the subject of piano technique and gave many recitals.
