Constance Jocelyn Ffoulkes
Constance Jocelyn Ffoulkes (1858–1950) was a British art historian, translator, and scholar of Italian Renaissance art. She participated in the adoption of the 'historical standpoint' method of research, a shift in art criticism that emerged in the early twentieth century. She was a student of Giovanni Morelli and his methods of connoisseurship, which involved assembling subtle clues and recognition of personal technique, the artist's 'hand', to determine a work's provenance and creators. She translated Morelli's ''Kunstkritische Studien über italienische Malerei'' and was instrumental in the communication of Morelli's methods and legacy. Ffoulkes' own techniques involved the investigation of historical documentation, which came to be used by many modern art historians in support of their conclusions. Edmund Ffoulkes
Edmund Salusbury Ffoulkes (12 January 1819 – 19 April 1894) was a British clergyman who converted from Anglicanism to Catholicism and back again in the 19th century. Biography Ffoulkes was the son of John Powell Foulkes and Caroline Mary Jocelyn. His father was heir to the Eriviat estates which the ffoulkes family had owned since at least the 16th century. He was christened 21 January 1819 at Henllan, Denbigh, he was educated at Shrewsbury School and Jesus College, Oxford. His uncle, Henry Foulkes was principal of the college from 1817 to 1857. He obtained a second-class degree in Literae Humaniores in 1841. He became a Fellow of Jesus College in 1843, holding this position until 1855. He was ordained as a priest in the Church of England and also served for a time as the college's Junior Bursar. He joined the Roman Catholic Church in 1855. Charles John ffoulkes (1868–1947) was a British historian, and curator of the Royal Armouries at London. He was a younger son of the Reverend Edmund ffoulkes. Angela June Foulkes (born 1948) is a trade unionist and government official in New Zealand. Biography Foulkes was born in England and emigrated to New Zealand in 1973. She worked for ANZ Bank from 1973 to 1988, where she was a member of the negotiating team that won maternity leave for bank officers. She also held the position of president of the Bank Officers Union from 1982 to 1988. In 1988 she resigned her position at ANZ to become vice-president of the New Zealand Council of Trade Unions. In 1991 she was appointed secretary of the council. Foulkes has also served on the board of the New Zealand Qualifications Authority and as chair of the Inspector-General of Intelligence and Security's Advisory Panel. Annie Foulkes
Annie Foulkes (24 March 1877 - 12 November 1962) was a Welsh writer and teacher of French. Her poetry anthology, ''Telyn y dydd'', became part of the curriculum in Welsh schools. Born in 1877 in Llanberis, the daughter of a writer and official of Dinorwig slate quarry, she was educated at Dr Williams School in Dolgellau and later at the Collège de Jeunes Filles in Saumur, France (1896–97). She taught French after graduating, teaching at Tregaron County School from 1898 to 1905, and Barry County School from 1905 to 1918. In 1918, she succeeded Robert Silyn Roberts as Executive Secretary of the Appointments Board of the University of Wales. Foulkes spent many years in Barry, Vale of Glamorgan, where she was an associate of Thomas Jones and his literary circle, and it was Thomas who convinced Foulkes to compile an anthology of modern Welsh poetry, which was first published in 1918 with the title ''Telyn y dydd''. William Anthony Foulkes ( or ; 5 January 1932 – 25 November 2013) was an English footballer who played for Manchester United in the Busby Babes teams of the 1950s, and also in the 1960s. His favoured position was centre-half. For Manchester United, he played 688 games which places him at number 4 on the all-time list of appearances behind Ryan Giggs, Bobby Charlton and Paul Scholes. He made 3 appearances as a substitute. He also started in every single United game in the 1957–58, 1959–60 and 1964–65 seasons. William Isaiah Foulkes (29 May 1926 – 7 February 1979) was a Welsh international footballer, who played as an inside forward for Newcastle United, Southampton and Chester in the 1940s and 1950s, winning the FA Cup with Newcastle in 1952. Playing career Born in Merthyr Tydfil, he signed as a professional with Cardiff City in February 1945. He failed to break into the first team and in April 1948 he moved north to join Chester in the Third Division North. George Ernest Foulkes (December 25, 1878 – December 13, 1960) was a United States representative from Michigan. Foulkes was born in Chicago and attended the public schools of Chicago. He graduated from the law department of Lake Forest University, Chicago, in 1900. He was admitted to the bar the same year and commenced practice in the United States Treasury Department.
