Feusier Octagon House
The Feusier Octagon House is an historic octagonal house built in c. 1857, and located in the Russian Hill neighborhood of San Francisco, California. It has been listed as a San Francisco Designated Landmark since October 1, 1970; listed as a California Historical Landmark since March 24, 1974; and it has been added to the National Register of Historic Places since March 24, 1974. The house is also part of the Russian Hill-Paris Block Architectural District. With History The Feusier Octagon House is located at 1067 Green Street in San Francisco. It was built between 1857 and 1858 by George Kenny, who sold it in 1870 to Louis Feusier. Octagon houses were a unique house style briefly popular in the 1850s in the United States and Canada. They are characterised by an octagonal (eight-sided) plan, and often feature a flat roof and a veranda all round. Russian Hill is a neighborhood of San Francisco, California. It is named after one of San Francisco's 44 hills, and one of its original "Seven Hills". Location Russian Hill is directly to the north (and slightly downhill) from Nob Hill, to the south (uphill) from Fisherman's Wharf, and to the west of the North Beach neighborhood. Lands End is a park in San Francisco within the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. It is a rocky and windswept shoreline at the mouth of the Golden Gate, situated between the Sutro District and Lincoln Park and abutting Fort Miley Military Reservation. A memorial to USS ''San Francisco'' stands in the park. Numerous hiking trails follow the former railbeds of the Ferries and Cliff House Railway along the cliffs and also down to the shore.
