Festivals In The Netherlands
This is a list of music festivals in the Netherlands. It includes current and past notable festivals. In 2022, there were 10% more festivals and 4% more visitors than in 2019 before the COVID-19 pandemic started. A total of 19.2 million visitors in 2022. Because of the pandemic, the number of festivals fell from over 1,100 in 2019 to 155 in 2020 and rose to 343 in 2021. The festival sector dropped back to 1985 levels in 2020. With 1.4 million visits, 2020 is the worst festival year since measurements began. Defqon
Defqon.1 Weekend Festival is an annual music festival held in the Netherlands. In the past, it was also held in Chile and Australia. Founded in 2003 by festival organizer Q-dance, the festival plays mostly hardstyle and related genres such as rawstyle, hardcore, early and classic. Events The festival was previously held in mid-June on Almeerderstrand in Almere. Since 2011, it is hosted on the event site next to Walibi Holland in Biddinghuizen. Since 2009, the event has also been hosted in Sydney in mid-September, at the Sydney International Regatta Centre. Until 2011 (2014 for the Australian edition) the festival ran for 12 hours, from 11:00 am to 11:00 pm, and ended with a firework display. Since 2012, the festival was extended to three days. Noord-Scharwoude
Noord-Scharwoude ( West Frisian: ''Noôrd-Skerwou'') is a village in the municipality of Dijk en Waard in the province of North Holland, Netherlands. History The village was first mentioned in 1094 as Bernardeskercha. The current name means "northern forest belonging to Schoorl". Noord (north) was added to distinguish from Zuid-Scharwoude. Noord-Scharwoude developed in the 11th century as a linear settlement on a dike. The Catholic John the Baptist church is a three aisled basilica-like church built between 1905 and 1906 as a replacement of an 1856 church. Noord-Scharwoude was home to 634 people in 1840. It was a separate municipality between 1817 and 1941, when the new municipality Langedijk was created. Liquicity
Liquicity is a Dutch liquid drum and bass record label, YouTube channel and events promoter, run by Maris Goudzwaard and Mark van der Schoot (better known by his stage name Maduk) since 2011. History Maris Goudzwaard created his ''Liquicity'' YouTube channel in 2008, with the idea of starting an entirely new subculture within Drum & Bass. He curated a particular type of drum and bass music that had previously not been labeled, and by doing so gave shape to a worldwide music community. The channel quickly attracted fans –who would become known as "Liquicitizens"– with the same musical taste, and artists from the same genre featured on the channel gradually formed a close group. In the summer of 2011, Goudzwaard heard Maduk's first track, "Avalon", and successfully contacted him to promote it on the Liquicity channel. Vlieland
(; ) is a municipality and island in the northern Netherlands. The municipality of Vlieland is the second most sparsely populated municipality in the Netherlands, after Schiermonnikoog. Vlieland is one of the West Frisian Islands, lying in the Wadden Sea. It is the second island from the west in the chain, lying between Texel and Terschelling. The island was permanently separated from the mainland in St. Lucia's flood in 1287. Vlieland was named after the Vlie, the seaway between it and Terschelling that was the estuary of the river IJssel in medieval times. ''Into the Great Wide Open'' is the eighth studio album by American rock band Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. Released in July 1991, it was the band's last with MCA Records. The album was the second that Petty produced with Jeff Lynne, following the successful '' Full Moon Fever'' (1989). Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers recorded the album in Studio C at Rumbo Recorders, which charged a rate of $600 per day. Voorthuizen
Voorthuizen ( Dutch Low Saxon: ''Voorthuzen'') is a village in the municipality of Barneveld, in the Dutch province of Gelderland. Tourism Voorthuizen is a tourist village, located on the edge of the Veluwe. East of the village is a high concentration of campsites. To the southeast, on the A1, lies the Zeumeren recreation area, which attracts around 400,000 visitors per year. The tourist season has been opened since 2014 with a one-day event, "Voorthuizen Straalt!". History Voorthuizen was founded, according to legend, near a crossing of a ford ('Voorde') of the Ganzenbeek, a brook that no longer exists, on the road from Amsterdam to Deventer. European World Of Bluegrass
The European World of Bluegrass (EWOB Netherland) is an annual three-day event which was initially held in 1998 in the town of Lichtenvoorde, Netherlands, and is now being held annually in the town of Voorthuizen, Netherlands. This festival is held in May or June, during the “Ascension day”, Christian religious holiday. The festival normally begins on a Thursday and ends the following Saturday night. Every year musicians from countries in Europe and around the world travel to meet and perform. During the festival about 50 bands or 200 musicians perform. Every year the EWOB attracts 500 to 600 visitors. Dutch Harp Festival
The Dutch Harp Festival (DHF) is a harp musical festival that takes place every two years in Utrecht, Netherlands. The Dutch Harp Festival was founded in 2010 and features harpists from around the world and a variety of musical genres. The festival also includes visuals, sound and light installations, instrument workshops, and an area to try out different harps. The World Harp Competition finals (and since 2024 the semifinals) also take place alongside the Dutch Harp Festival. The next Dutch Harp Festival is scheduled to take place on Saturday, 18 April 2026 at TivoliVredenburg, Utrecht, Netherlands.
