Ivan Fesenko is a mathematician working in number theory and its interaction with other areas of modern mathematics. Education Fesenko was educated at St. Petersburg State University where he was awarded a PhD in 1987. Career and research Fesenko was awarded the Prize of the Petersburg Mathematical Society in 1992. Since 1995, he is professor in pure mathematics at University of Nottingham. He contributed to several areas of number theory such as class field theory and its generalizations, as well as to various related developments in pure mathematics. Fesenko contributed to explicit formulas for the generalized Hilbert symbol on local fields and higher local field, higher class field theory, p-class field theory, arithmetic noncommutative local class field theory. He competed in the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia, 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece and qualified to represent his country at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China. His father, Sergey Fesenko, Sr., won the gold medal in the 200m butterfly at the 1980 Summer Olympics, 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow. Fesenko is a citizen of the United States and resided in Indiana. Yekaterina Fesenko (russian: Екатерина Фесенко, born August 8, 1958) is a Russian athlete who competed for the USSR. She was born in Krasnodar. After her marriage in 1992, she appeared in the charts under the name of Yekaterina Grun or Yekaterina Fesenko-Grun (russian: Екатерина Фесенко-Грунь). Career Fesenko was USSR champion 400 meter hurdles starting in 1980. In the 1982 European Championships, she placed seventh in 55.86. In 1983, she won titles in the 400m hurdles and as part of the Soviet 4 x 400 meter relay team at the Universiade. Later that season, at the inaugural 1983 World Championships in Athletics she won the title in 54.14, one hundredth of a second ahead of her compatriot Ana Ambrazienė, who had previously set the world record at 54.02 in June of that year.
