Beth Fertig
Beth Fertig is a New York City-based editor and writer who was previously an award-winning veteran journalist at the New York City public radio station WNYC, and was a regular contributor to NPR's news programs. She covered many beats while at WNYC. These included local politics during Rudy Giuliani's administration, the 9/11 attacks, education, transportation and immigration. In 2005, NPR sent her on a monthlong assignment to KRVS cover the impact of Hurricane Katrina in Lafayette, LA, which received tens of thousands of evacuees from New Orleans. She is also the author of the education book "Why cant u teach me 2 read? Three Students and a Mayor Put Our Schools to the Test". Fertig left WNYC in 2021 to work as an editor at the XQ Institute, a nonprofit foundation dedicated to improving U.S. high schools. Craig Fertig
Craig Fertig (May 7, 1942 – October 4, 2008) was an American college football player and coach. He was the head football coach at Oregon State University from 1976 to 1979, compiling a record of 10–34–1 () in four seasons. Playing career Fertig attended the University of Southern California where he was a star quarterback for the Trojans. In 1964, he set eight school passing records and threw the game-winning touchdown against top-ranked Notre Dame. Coaching career Selected late in the 1965 NFL draft, 270th overall, Fertig opted not to play pro football and began coaching in 1965 at USC. From 1965 to 1975, he served as an assistant coach with the Trojans, except for a year in the World Football League (WFL) in 1974. Fertig was hired as an assistant coach with the Portland Storm, but the team only lasted one season. George Fertig
George Fertig (1915–1983) was a Canadian artist. He was born in Carmangay, Alberta and died in Burnaby, British Columbia. He began with photography in his early 20s and started oil painting at the age of 24. In 1941 he moved to Vancouver from Trail. He exhibited in the B.C. Artists Annual Exhibition in the 1940s and early 50s. But with the rise of abstraction and the confines of the sociopolitical climate of the Vancouver Art Gallery and the Vancouver School of Art, his work was rarely seen outside of the Gallery of B.C. Arts in the 1960s and 70s. The Burnaby Art Gallery held a retrospective of his work in 2010 and his daughter Mona Fertig wrote and published ''The Life and Art of George Fertig'', the 3rd book in the Unheralded Artists of BC series-Mother Tongue Publishing, for the exhibition. Jack Fertig
Sister Boom Boom, also known as Sister Mary Boom Boom, was the drag nun persona of astrologer Jack Fertig (February 21, 1955 – August 5, 2012). He was a prominent member of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, a gay activist group founded in San Francisco in 1979. Drag career Often erroneously credited as a founder of the group, Sister Boom Boom actually joined the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence in 1980, several months after its founding. His persona's full name was Sister Rose of the Bloody Stains of the Sacred Robes of Jesus, which—when spoken—would trail into a sing-song cadence and a long fermata. In 1982, Sister Boom Boom ran for a seat on the San Francisco Board of Supervisors with agitprop campaigning tactics bringing humor and raising issues he felt were being ignored in the race.
