Ferrol (comarca)
Ferrol is a coastal ''comarca'' in the northwest of the province of A Coruña, Galicia, Spain. It is also known as Ferrolterra. The area is 613.4 km2, and the overall population of this ''comarca'' was 161,154 at the 2011 Census; the latest official estimate (at the start of 2018) was 153,776.Estimate at 1 January 2018: Instituto Nacional de Estadística, Madrid. Municipalities It is composed of 11 municipalities, two of which are considered cities (Ferrol and Narón). Six municipalities ( Ferrol, Ares, Fene, Mugardos, Narón and Neda) provide the urban division of the ''comarca'' as they form the urban area located around Ferrol Bay. These towns are very dependent on Ferrol and Narón and are closely connected between themselves. The more rural zone to the east and north consists of Valdoviño, Moeche, Somozas and San Sadurniño municipalities. Ferrol, Spain
Ferrol (, ) is a city in the province of A Coruña in Galicia, Spain, located in the Rías Altas, in the vicinity of Strabo's Cape Nerium (modern-day Cape Prior). According to the 2021 census, the city had a population of 64,785, making it the seventh-largest settlement in Galicia. With Eume to the south and Ortegal to the north, Ferrol forms the ''comarca'' of Ferrolterra. Around a hundred years ago, and earlier, the harbour, with its depth, capacity and overall safety, had few equals in Europe; its entrance was very narrow, commanded by forts, and could even be shut by a boom. Racing Club de Ferrol, commonly known as Racing de Ferrol, is a Spanish football team based in Ferrol, Province of A Coruña, in the autonomous community of Galicia. Ferrol, officially the Municipality of Ferrol, is a municipality of the Philippines, municipality in the Philippine Province, province of Romblon, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 8,005 people. History Ferrol was established in 1850 as a barrio of Odiongan by the Spain, Spanish colonial authorities. They discovered the place 10 kilometers south-west after repulsing and chasing a convoy of Muslim pirates that attacked Odiongan. The Spaniards noticed the resemblance of the bay of the vicinity similar to that of Ferrol, Spain, which is the home port of Spain, Spain's Spanish Navy, Maritime Department of the North; hence the town's name. Ferrol Sams
Ferrol Aubrey Sams, Jr. (September 26, 1922 – January 29, 2013) was an American physician and novelist. Early life and education Sams was born to Mildred Matthews and Ferrol Aubrey Sams, Sr, in Fayette County, Georgia, United States. The younger Sams lived in a house built by his great-grandfather. On July 18, 1948, he married Helen Fletcher, who was also a physician. Sams' medical career started at Mercer University in Macon, Georgia, from which he graduated in 1942. He then attended Emory University School of Medicine for a semester and then joined the United States Army Medical Corps. After serving from 1943 to 1947 and seeing action in France, Sams returned to Emory to continue his medical studies. He received his M.D. in 1949. Both Sams and his wife, Helen, practiced medicine in Fayette County until they retired in 2006. Sams was affectionately known by his family and a few close friends as "Sambo".
