Geography Ferny Grove is a residential suburb north-west of the Brisbane CBD. It has 8 parks covering nearly 13% of the total area. There are three schools and two childcare centres. History The district was originally known as ''Ferny Flats'' due to the presence of ferns. Kedron Upper Provisional School opened on 16 August 1875. On 1 October 1909 it became Kedron Upper State School. In 1940 it was renamed Ferny Grove State School. The construction of the railway line to Dayboro through the district led to the decision on 22 June 1916 to call the railway station in the area ''Ferny Grove'' to avoid confusion with a place called Ferny Flats in New South Wales. The Ferny Grove railway line is a suburban rail transport, railway line in Brisbane central business district, Brisbane, the state capital of Queensland, Australia. Ferny Grove Railway Station, Brisbane
Ferny Grove railway station is the terminus station of the Ferny Grove line in Queensland, Australia. It serves the Brisbane suburb of Ferny Grove. The Brisbane Tramway Museum is a short walk south of the station. History The station opened in 1918 as part of the extension to Samford. The line formerly extended to Dayboro, but was cut back to Ferny Grove in 1955, as part of a larger rationalisation by the Queensland Government of its railway lines. The line now terminates here with bus services running to Samford during peak times. The station was upgraded in 2012 as part of the Keperra-Ferny Grove duplication project. The upgrade included relocating the platform, a new station building and car park. History Keperra has a deep and rich indigenous history. The name ''Keperra'' comes from a Yuggera words ''kipper''/''kippa'' indicating a young man. Two bora rings used to be located within the suburb, one near the corner of Samford Road and Keperra Street (now under housing) and one which disappeared with the construction of the Keperra Country Club.
