Fernando Silva (swimmer)
Fernando Souza da Silva (born 7 April 1986 in Rio de Janeiro) is an Olympic and national record holding swimmer from Brazil. He swam for Brazil at the 2008 Olympics, as a member of the men's 4×100-metre freestyle relay. Until 2006, Fernando did not swim 50-metre and 100-metre freestyle; he was a butterfly stroke specialist. As he began to achieve good results in the faster swimming races, he became a sprinter and established himself as one of the best in his country. He competed at the 2006 FINA World Swimming Championships (25 m) in Shanghai, where he finished 17th in the 200-metre butterfly. Silva swam at the 2006 Pan Pacific Swimming Championships, where he finished 14th in the 100-metre butterfly, 17th in the 200-metre butterfly and was disqualified from the 4×100-metre freestyle. EC Pinheiros
The Esporte Clube Pinheiros, founded on 7 September 1899, by German immigrants, under the name Sport Club Germânia (Sport Club Germany), is a multi-sports and social club located in the Brazilian metropolis São Paulo. 2009 World Aquatics Championships
The 2009 World Aquatics Championships ( it, Campionati mondiali di nuoto 2009) or the XIII FINA World Championships were held in Rome, Italy from 18 July to 2 August 2009. The 2009 Championships featured competition in all 5 aquatics disciplines: diving, swimming, open water swimming, synchronised swimming and water polo. Rome won the right to stage the event on 16 July 2005 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Rome defeated rival bids from Athens (Greece), Moscow (Russia) and Yokohama ( Japan). Swimming At The 2008 Summer Olympics
The swimming competitions at the 2008 Summer Olympics took place from 9 to 17 August 2008 at the Beijing National Aquatics Centre. The newly introduced open water marathon events (10 km) were held on 20 and 21 August 2008 at Shunyi Olympic Rowing-Canoeing Park. Swimming featured 34 events (17 male, 17 female), including two 10 km open-water marathons. The remaining 32 were contested in a 50 m long course pool within the Olympic Park. The United States claimed a total of 31 medals (12 golds, 9 silver, and 10 bronze) in the leaderboard to maintain its standings as the most successful nation in swimming. A stellar performance in the pool also made an Olympic history for Michael Phelps, who captured eight gold medals to break Mark Spitz's 1972 record, a total of seven, at a single Games. Lucas Vinícius Yokoo Salatta (born 27 April 1987 in São Paulo) is a Brazilian backstroke swimmer. At his 1998 state championship, Salatta set two age records in the 100m freestyle (1:04.50) and 100m butterfly (1:09.30) with only 11 years old. He is nicknamed the "New Ricardo Prado", after breaking one of Prado's Brazilian Records in 2002. At the 2002 South American Games, he won three gold medals in the 200-metre individual medley, 400-metre individual medley and 4 × 100 m freestyle. Salatta was at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, where he finished 19th place in the 400-metre individual medley. Guilherme Augusto Guido (born 12 February 1987) is a Brazilian backstroke swimmer who specializes in sprint events. He was twice a finalist in the 100 metre backstroke at World Championships When Guido was young, he was a big rival of César Cielo. In the tournaments in the region of Campinas, Guido used to beat Cielo in freestyle, while Cielo won the backstroke, until the age of 15 when Cielo decided to dedicate himself to freestyle, and the situation was reversed. Guilherme Guido focused on backstroke, and today both he and Cielo are great Brazilian and South American swimmers. He is a member of the London Roar team, competing in Season 2 of the International Swimming League (ISL).
