György Surányi (born January 3, 1954) is a Hungarian economist the CEO and chairman of CIB Bank and former president of the Hungarian National Bank. Career Surányi has been president of the Hungarian national Bank between 1990–1991 and again in 1995-2001. In his second tenure as central banker from 1995 he played a role in the restoration of balance to the Hungarian economy and getting inflation under control. In the same period he co-authored the Bokros package, a series of measures cutting both the budget and current account deficits.
