Felix Zabala
Felix "Tuto" Zabala (October 18, 1937 – May 6, 2021) was a Miami-based boxing promoter and manager. He was a promoter and manager of over 50 fighters for forty years, handling world champions, contenders, and other fighters. Boxing historian Hank Kaplan considered him “the best promoter in Miami”. He was also inducted into the "Florida Boxing Hall of Fame" as part of the "Class of 2009". Early life Zabala was forced to deal with national conflicts early in his life. At 21 years old, he took up arms against the Fidel Castro, Castro government. He was eventually captured and detained for questioning in 1961. Though he was married, Zabala chose to flee Cuba on August 25, 1961. A friend who worked at an airline assisted him and got him aboard a flight to Jamaica. Alfredo Escalera
Alfredo "El Salsero" Escalera (born March 21, 1952) is a Puerto Rican former professional boxer and is the former World Boxing Council Super Featherweight world champion. A native of Carolina, his nickname was "Salsero" because he was a fan of Salsa music. Escalera and his nephew Jesus Manuel Escalera is also a 2023 Florida Boxing Hall of Fame Inductee. Early boxing career Escalera had his first professional bout on September 4, 1970, against Bob Payzant, in Portland. He won by a knockout in round four. WAPA-TV (channel 4) is a Spanish-language independent television station in San Juan, Puerto Rico. It is the flagship and namesake station of Guaynabo-based WAPA Media Group. WAPA-TV maintains studio facilities on Luis Vigoreaux Avenue in Guaynabo; its transmitter is located on the WKAQ-TV (channel 2) transmission tower at Cerro La Santa in Cayey near the Carite State Forest. Arnold Alex Daoud (May 19, 1943 – March 15, 2025) was an American attorney, politician and author who served as the mayor of Miami Beach, Florida, from 1985 to 1991. In 1991, Daoud was indicted for 41 counts of bribery and was convicted and served seventeen months in a federal prison. In professional boxing and some other combat sports, a mandatory challenger is an opponent whom a champion must either fight (in a mandatory defence) or be forced to vacate their title as champion. The opposite of a mandatory defence is a ''voluntary'' defence, against an opponent who might offer greater revenue potential than a mandatory challenger. Mandatory challengers are designated by the champion's sanctioning body; in boxing, the major sanctioning bodies are the WBA, WBC, IBF and WBO. The sanctioning bodies often order eliminators between top-ranked contenders to decide who will receive the mandatory challenger status. If the champion vacates the belt, the mandatory challenger is paired against another challenger for the vacant belt.
