Felix Raymond Arnott
Felix Raymond Arnott CMG, Th.D., M.A., B.A. (8 March 1911 – 27 July 1988) was an Australian Archbishop of the Anglican Diocese of Brisbane. Early life and education He was born on 8 March 1911 and educated at Ipswich School and Keble College, Oxford. Career Ordained after a period of study at Ripon College Cuddesdon in 1934, his first post was a curacy in the parish of All Saints and St Mary, Elland (1934–38). After that he was chaplain to the Bishop of Wakefield (1936–39), during which he was also Vice-Principal of Bishops' College, Cheshunt (1938–39). He was then Warden of St John's College, Brisbane (1939–46). From 1946 to 1963, he held a similar post at St. Paul's College, Sydney, where he was also a lecturer in ecclesiastical history at the University of Sydney. Archbishop
In Christian denominations, an archbishop is a bishop of higher rank or office. In most cases, such as the Catholic Church, there are many archbishops who either have jurisdiction over an ecclesiastical province in addition to their own archdiocese ( with some exceptions), or are otherwise granted a titular archbishopric. In Christian churches with episcopal polity, the rank of metropolitan bishop, or simply metropolitan (alternative obsolete form: metropolite), is held by the diocesan bishop or archbishop of a metropolis. Originally, the term referred to the bishop of the chief city of a historical Roman province, whose authority in relation to the other bishops of the province was recognized by the First Council of Nicaea (AD 325). The bishop of the provincial capital, the metropolitan, enjoyed certain rights over other bishops in the province, later called "suffragan bishops". St Andrew's Cathedral (also known as St Andrew's Anglican Cathedral) is a cathedral church (building), church of the Anglican Diocese of Sydney in the Anglican Church of Australia. A coadjutor bishop (or bishop coadjutor) ("co-assister" in Latin) is a bishop in the Latin Catholic, Anglican and (historically) Eastern Orthodox churches whose main role is to assist the diocesan bishop in administering the diocese. The coadjutor automatically succeeds the diocesan bishop when he retires, dies or leaves office for another reason. In the Latin Catholic Church, the coadjutor is a priest or bishop appointed by the pope in Rome. He is considered the principal deputy administrator of the diocese.
