Felinae
The small cats or Felinae are a subfamily of Felidae distinguished by their bony hyoids, which let them purr but not roar. Other authors have proposed an alternative definition for this subfamily, as comprising only the living conical-toothed cat genera with two tribes, the Felini and Pantherini, and excluding the extinct sabre-toothed Machairodontinae. Characteristics The members of the Felinae have retractile claws that are protected by at least one cutaneous Lobe (anatomy), lobe. Their larynx is kept close to the base of the skull by an Ossification, ossified hyoid. They can purr owing to the vocal folds being shorter than . The cheetah ''Acinonyx'' does not have cutaneous sheaths for guarding claws. Taxonomy The term 'Felini' was first used in 1817 by Gotthelf Fischer von Waldheim, at the time for all the cat species that had been proposed as belonging to the Genus (biology), genus ''Felis''. In 1917, Reginald Innes Pocock also subordinated the following genera to the Felinae ...

Felidae
Felidae ( ) is the Family (biology), family of mammals in the Order (biology), order Carnivora colloquially referred to as cats. A member of this family is also called a felid ( ). The 41 extant taxon, extant Felidae species exhibit the greatest diversity in fur patterns of all terrestrial carnivores. Cats have retractile claws, slender muscular bodies and strong flexible forelimbs. Their teeth and facial muscles allow for a powerful bite. They are all obligate carnivores, and most are solitary predators ambushing or stalking their prey. Wild cats occur in Africa, Europe, Asia and the Americas. Some wild cat species are adapted to forest and savanna habitats, some to arid environments, and a few also to wetlands and mountainous terrain. Their activity patterns range from nocturnal and crepuscular to Diurnality, diurnal, depending on their preferred prey species. Reginald Innes Pocock divided the extant Felidae into three subfamilies: the Pantherinae, the Felinae and the Acin ...

Feline (band)
Feline were an English alternative rock/pop group formed in Camden, London, in 1995. Their sound was described by journalist Mike Pattenden as " new goth", a mix of Eighties bands like Siouxsie and the Banshees and The Cure with contemporary acts like The Smashing Pumpkins. Guitarist Drew Richards added, " utyou won't catch us lying around on gravestones". "They are very cool animals, self-possessed, and they've been potent mystical symbols throughout time", explained front-person Grog to the music industry trade press, "which we thought reflected the power of this band". Initially formed as a vehicle for Grog to record a solo album following the dissolution of her first band, Feline became a fully fledged band when musicians were recruited to perform with her. Grog herself sported a tattoo of the band's logo on her shoulder. Feline signed to a major-label record deal with Chrysalis Records and released their debut album, '' Save Your Face'', in 1997. Despite receiving positiv ...

Feline (The Stranglers Album)
''Feline'' is the seventh studio album by the Stranglers and was released on 14 January 1983 on the Epic record label, their first for the label. The first edition came with a free one-sided 7" single "Aural Sculpture Manifesto". ''Feline'' drew heavily on two of the dominant musical influences in Europe of the time, by using primarily acoustic guitars and electronic drums as well as synthesizers. The American edition of the album included the British hit single "Golden Brown" as the closing track on side one of the original vinyl (and the fifth song in on the CD version). ''Feline'' peaked higher than their previous studio album release, '' La Folie'', reaching No. 4 in the UK Albums Chart. There were three singles released from ''Feline'': the first was "European Female" which reached No. 9 in the UK Singles Chart in January 1983, and was followed by a remixed 7" version of "Midnight Summer Dream" in February (which peaked at No. 35 in the UK). The third and final single r ...

Save Your Face
''Save Your Face'' is the debut album by British alternative rock group Feline and was released worldwide in 1997. It was preceded by "Just As You Are", the video of which was picked up by MTV Europe. The following year, the album was repackaged, retitled as ''Feline'' and expanded with two newly recorded tracks produced by Feline guitarist Drew Richards. Three of the ''Save Your Face'' tracks were remixed by Chris Sheldon for the new release, which was preceded by "Sun In My Eyes" and the cancelled "Drama Queen". Recording sessions Feline recorded the bulk of ''Save Your Face'' over three weeks in December 1996 at Olympic Studios in London, England, with producer David M. Allen, who was known for his work on The Cure's '' Disintegration'' and ''Wish''. Allen was chosen to produce the record because the band purposely did not want to sound like their influences. The album was mixed by Pat Collier in London's Eden Studios, while a further two tracks ("Just As You Are" and "Not ...
