Northwest Stadium is an American football stadium in Landover, Maryland, U.S., located east of Washington, D.C.. It is the home stadium of the Washington Commanders of the National Football League (NFL). From 2004 until 2010, it had the NFL's largest seating capacity at 91,000 and currently seats 62,000. The Washington Commanders are a professional American football team based in the Washington metropolitan area. The Commanders compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member of the National Football Conference (NFC) East division. 1999 Washington Redskins Season
The Washington Redskins season was the franchise's 68th season in the National Football League (NFL) and their 63rd in Washington, D.C. The team improved on their 6–10 record from 1998 to go 10–6. They succeeded to the extent of reaching their first postseason since 1992 and beating the Detroit Lions in the Wildcard round of the playoffs, their most recent home playoff victory. Their season would end after losing to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers by a single point in the divisional playoff round. The season would also be the first season for new team owner Daniel Snyder, who purchased the team prior to the start of the season from Jack Kent Cooke's estate. The sale was finalized by the Cooke family on July 13, 1999. Whiskey Bottom Road is a historic road north of Laurel, Maryland that traverses Anne Arundel County, Maryland, Anne Arundel and Howard County, Maryland, Howard Counties in an area that was first settled by English colonists in the mid-1600s. The road was named in the 1880s in association with one of its residents delivering whiskey after a Prohibition in the United States, prohibition vote. Laurel Park Racecourse
Laurel Park, formerly Laurel Race Course, is an American thoroughbred racetrack located just outside Laurel, Maryland which opened in 1911. The track is miles in circumference. Its name was changed to "Laurel Race Course" for several decades until returning to the "Laurel Park" designation in 1994. In April 2024 the Maryland General Assembly approved a bill that would consolidate thoroughbred racing in Maryland to Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore. Laurel Park is expected to host the 2026 Preakness Stakes, and then permanently close for racing once renovations at Pimlico have been completed.
