Federico Errázuriz Zañartu
Federico Marcos del Rosario Errázuriz Zañartu (; April 25, 1825 – July 20, 1877) was a Chilean political figure. He served as the president of Chile between 1871 and 1876. Biography He was born on 25 April 1825 Santiago to Francisco Javier Errázuriz Aldunate and Josefa Zañartu Manso de Velasco. He was of Basque descent. He studied law in the University of Chile. He was made a deputy in parliament at an early age, and took some part in the parliamentary debates. In 1860 he was made chief of the province of Santiago, and introduced many reforms. In 1862, during Pérez's administration, he became secretary of justice and of public instruction; and in 1865, during the Chincha Islands War with Spain, he was secretary of war and the navy. In 1871 Errázuriz became president of the republic of Chile, and introduced liberal reforms of great importance to the country, tending toward the secularization of public instruction and freedom of worship. José Joaquín Pérez
José Joaquín Pérez Mascayano (; 6 May 1801 – 1 July 1889) was a Chilean lawyer, diplomat, and politician who served as President of Chile from 1861 to 1871. Born in Santiago to an aristocratic family, Pérez studied humanities at the Real Colegio Carolino and the Instituto Nacional before earning a law degree from the Royal University of San Felipe. His early career focused on diplomacy, serving as secretary of the Chilean legation in Washington, D.C. in 1826, chargé d'affaires in France in 1829, and representative to Buenos Aires in 1830. Pérez entered politics as a Deputy for Aconcagua Province in 1826 and later held seats for Puchacay, Curicó, and Santiago. He also served as Minister of the Interior and Minister of Foreign Relations under President Manuel Bulnes. ''Blanco Encalada'' was a central battery ship built by Earle's Shipbuilding Co. in England for the Chilean Navy in 1875. She was nicknamed ''El Blanco''. She participated actively in the War of the Pacific, her most important action being the capture of the Peruvian monitor during the Battle of Angamos.
