Federica Brignone
Federica Brignone (born 14 July 1990) is an Italian World Cup alpine ski racer. She competes in all alpine disciplines, with a focus on giant slalom and super-G. Brignone won the World Cup overall title in 2020, becoming the first Italian female to achieve this feat. She is also an Olympic and World Championship medalist. At the 2022 Winter Olympics, she won a silver medal in the giant slalom and a bronze in the combined. Ski racing Born in Milan, Lombardy, Brignone made her World Cup debut at age 17 in December 2007, and her first full season on the World Cup circuit was in 2010. At her first World Championships in 2011, Brignone won the silver medal in the giant slalom. In December 2012, Brignone underwent surgery on her right ankle to remove a bothersome cyst, and missed the rest of the 2013 season. FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 2021
The FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 2021 were held from 8–21 February in Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy. In May 2020, the Italian Winter Sports Federation (FISI) and the event organizing committee asked the International Ski Federation (FIS) to postpone the event until 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, however, the request was rejected by FIS, and the organizers then moved forward with plans for 2021. The host city was selected at the FIS Congress in Cancún, Mexico, on 10 June 2016. Cortina d'Ampezzo was the only applicant, and had been a finalist for the previous two championships. Cortina previously hosted the world championships in 1932 and 1956 ( Winter Olympics) and has held numerous World Cup events; the Tofane is a regular stop for women's speed events in January. The Women's combined competition of the Beijing 2022 Olympics was held on 17 February, on " Rock" (DH) and "Ice River" (SL) courses at the Yanqing National Alpine Ski Centre in Yanqing District. The women's giant slalom competition of the PyeongChang 2018 Olympics was held on 15 February 2018 at the Yongpyong Alpine Centre at the Alpensia Sports Park in PyeongChang. Originally set to be held on 12 February 2018, winds in excess of 50 km/h forced officials to reschedule the race for 15 February 2018. The FIS Alpine World Ski Championships is an alpine skiing competition organized by the International Ski Federation (FIS). History The inaugural world championships in alpine skiing were held in 1931. During the 1930s, the event was held annually in Europe, until interrupted by the outbreak of World War II, preventing a 1940 event. An event was held in 1941, but included competitors only from nations from the Axis powers or nations not at war with them. The results were later cancelled by the FIS in 1946 because of the limited number of participants, so they are not considered official. Alpine skiing, or downhill skiing, is the pastime of sliding down snow-covered slopes on skis with fixed-heel bindings, unlike other types of skiing ( cross-country, Telemark, or ski jumping), which use skis with free-heel bindings.
