Federal Way is a city in King County, Washington, United States and part of the Seattle metropolitan area. One of the most recently incorporated cities in the county, its population was 101,030 at the 2020 United States census, 2020 census. Federal Way is the List of municipalities in Washington, 10th most populous city in Washington and the 5th most populous in King County. History Originally a logging settlement, the area was first called "Federal Way" in 1929 in reference to a school district. Lakeland South is a census-designated place (CDP) in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 13,169 at the 2020 census. Based on per capita income, one of the more reliable measures of affluence, Lakeland South ranks 65th of 522 areas in the state of Washington to be ranked. Geography Lakeland South is located in southwestern King County and is bordered to the north and west by the city of Federal Way, to the northeast by Auburn, to the east by Algona and Pacific, and to the south by Milton and Edgewood. The boundary with Edgewood is the Pierce County line. Lakeland North is a census-designated place (CDP) in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 13,663 at the 2020 census. Part of the community was annexed into neighboring Auburn in 2008. Geography Lakeland North is located in southwestern King County and is bordered to the east by Auburn, to the south and west by Federal Way, and to the north by Kent. Interstate 5 runs along the west edge of the community, with access from Exit 143 (South 320th Street) at the southwest corner of the CDP and from Exit 147 (South 272nd Street) at the northwest corner.
