Federal Office For Civil Protection
The Federal Office for Civil Protection (FOCP) is the federal office responsible for the civil defense services of the Swiss cantons and municipalities. It is subordinated to the Federal Department of Defence, Civil Protection and Sport. Tasks The role of the Federal Office for Civil Protection is to ensure the co-ordination of leadership, protection, rescue and assistance in co-operation with the five pillars of civil protection, i.e. the police, the fire brigade, civil protection, technical services (water, electricity, communication) and public health services in the event of a disaster, emergency or armed conflict. The federal administration of Switzerland is the ensemble of agencies that constitute, together with the Swiss Federal Council, the executive branch of the Switzerland, Swiss federal authorities. Viola Amherd
Viola Patricia Amherd (born 7 June 1962) is a Swiss politician who served as a Member of the Swiss Federal Council from 2019 to 2025, and as President of the Swiss Confederation for 2024 between 1 January and 31 December. She was the head of the Federal Department of Defence, Civil Protection and Sport. Swiss Federal Council
The Federal Council is the federal cabinet of the Swiss Confederation. Its seven members also serve as the collective head of state and government of Switzerland. Since World War II, the Federal Council is by convention a permanent grand coalition government composed of representatives of the country's major parties and language regions. Civil Defense
Civil defense or civil protection is an effort to protect the citizens of a state (generally non-combatants) from human-made and natural disasters. It uses the principles of emergency management: Risk management, prevention, mitigation, preparation, response, or emergency evacuation and recovery. Programs of this sort were initially discussed at least as early as the 1920s and were implemented in some countries during the 1930s as the threat of war and strategic bombing, aerial bombardment grew. Civil-defense structures became widespread after authorities recognised the threats posed by nuclear weapons.
