The Federal Council of Retail and Allied Workers (FEDCRAW) is a trade union representing workers in the retail sector in South Africa. Commercial Catering And Allied Workers' Union Of South Africa
The South African Commercial, Catering and Allied Workers Union (SACCAWU) is a trade union representing retail, distribution, and hospitality workers in South Africa. History The union was founded in 1975, as the Commercial Catering and Allied Workers' Union (CCAWUSA). The first General Secretary was the union stalwart, Emma Mashinini, and Makhulu Ledwaba was elected as the first President of CCAWUSA. It initially grew strongly, but an unsuccessful strike in 1984 for higher wages in large hotels led to most of the hospitality workers leaving, while the small Federal Council of Retail and Allied Workers also split away. The department store was previously selling clothing, shoes, homeware & beauty and under new leadership has recently shifted its focus to mass-market fashion and beauty products. The National Council of Trade Unions (NACTU) is a national trade union center in South Africa. History The federation was formed by the merger of the Council of Unions of South Africa (CUSA) and the Azanian Confederation of Trade Unions (AZACTU) in 1986. The Confederation of South African Workers' Unions (CONSAWU) is a national trade union centre in South Africa. History The federation was established in 2003 by 21 trade unions which identified themselves as Christian democratic. It applied for membership of the government's National Economic Development and Labour Council, but it was rejected for having a membership below 300,000. In 2006, it engaged in discussions about a merger with rivals the Federation of Unions of South Africa and the National Council of Trade Unions, although they later excluded CONSAWU from the talks, on the grounds that it was too right-wing.
