Federal Convention Of Namibia
The Federal Convention of Namibia (FCN) was a political party based in Rehoboth, Namibia. It was created in the wake of Namibian independence in 1988 by a merger of several smaller parties and gained a seat in the Namibian Constituent Assembly. After also-ran results in 1994 and 1999 it ceased to be publicly active. Johannes Gerard Adolph Diergaardt, more commonly known as Hans Diergaardt (16 September 1927 – 13 February 1998) was a Namibian politician active for nearly a decade after Namibia gained independence. Prior to that, he was elected as the fifth Tribal chief, Kaptein of the then-autonomous Baster community at Rehoboth, Namibia, Rehoboth, succeeding Dr. Ben Africa in 1979 after winning a court challenge to the disputed election of 1976. Both before and after independence, Diergaardt founded several local political parties, among them the Federal Convention of Namibia. He represented this party as a member of the Constituent Assembly of Namibia, convened to draft the constitution for the new nation of Namibia. Namibian Parliamentary Election, 2004
General elections were held in Namibia on 15 and 16 November 2004 to elect the president and members of the National Assembly. The National Assembly election resulted in a landslide win for SWAPO, which won 55 of the 78 seats with over 75% of the vote. General elections were held in Namibia on 4 and 5 December 1994. Each registered voter could poll two votes, one for president (the first time a president was to be directly elected) and one for the National Assembly. Both elections were won by SWAPO, which won 53 of the 72 seats in the National Assembly, and whose candidate, Sam Nujoma, won the presidential election by more than three-fourth of the polled votes. Rehoboth Basters
The Basters (also known as Baasters, Rehobothers, or Rehoboth Basters) are a Southern African ethnic group descended from Cape Coloureds and Nama of Khoisan origin. Since the second half of the 19th century, the Rehoboth Baster community has been concentrated in central Namibia, in and around the town of Rehoboth. Basters are closely related to Afrikaners, Cape Coloureds, and Griquas of South Africa and Namibia, with whom they share a largely Afrikaner-influenced culture and Afrikaans language. Other groups of similar mixed ethnic origin, living chiefly in the Northern Cape, also refer to themselves as Basters. The name ''Baster'' is derived from "bastaard", the Dutch word for " bastard" or "mongrel". SWAPO
The South West Africa People's Organisation (SWAPO ; , SWAVO; , SWAVO), officially known as the SWAPO Party of Namibia, is a political party and former independence movement in Namibia (formerly South West Africa). Founded in 1960, it has been the governing party in Namibia since the country achieved independence in 1990. The party continues to be dominated in number and influence by the Ovambo ethnic group. SWAPO held a two-thirds majority in parliament from 1994 to 2019.
