February 2056 Lunar Eclipse
During the 21st century, there will be 228 lunar eclipses of which 86 will be Lunar eclipse#Types of lunar eclipse, penumbral, 57 will be partial and 85 will be total. Of the total eclipses, 24 will be central, in the sense that the Moon will pass through the very center (axis) of the Earth's shadow (for more information see Gamma (eclipse), gamma). In the 21st century, the greatest number of eclipses in one year is four, in 2009, 2020, 2038, 2056, 2085, and 2096. The predictions given here are by Fred Espenak of NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center. The longest measured duration in which the Earth completely covered the Moon, known as Lunar eclipse#Total lunar eclipse, totality, was during the July 2018 lunar eclipse, lunar eclipse of July 27, 2018. This total lunar eclipse had a maximum duration of 1 hour, 42 minutes, and 57 seconds. The longest possible duration of a total lunar eclipse is 1 hour and 47 minutes. The table contains the date and time of the greatest eclipse (in d ...

June 2002 Lunar Eclipse
A penumbral lunar eclipse occurred at the Moon’s descending node of orbit on Monday, June 24, 2002, with an umbral magnitude of −0.791. A lunar eclipse occurs when the Moon moves into the Earth's shadow, causing the Moon to be darkened. A penumbral lunar eclipse occurs when part or all of the Moon's near side passes into the Earth's penumbra. Unlike a solar eclipse, which can only be viewed from a relatively small area of the world, a lunar eclipse may be viewed from anywhere on the night side of Earth. Occurring about 6.7 days after perigee (on June 19, 2002, at 3:30 UTC), the Moon's apparent diameter was larger. Visibility The eclipse was completely visible over Africa, Europe, west and central Asia, and Antarctica, seen rising over much of South America and setting over much of east Asia and Australia.
