Fazle Elahi Akbar
Fazle Elahi Akbar (born 6 November 1957) is a former major general of Bangladesh Army who served as military adviser to the UN Advance Mission in the Sudan (UNAMIS). He served as the Force Commander in UNMIS from 2004 to 2006. Career In Bangladesh Army Akbar's first UN peacekeeping assignment was as part of the United Nations Iran–Iraq Military Observer Group (UNIIMOG) from 1988 to 1989. He also served as director of military operations. After military Akbar is a director of Social Islami Bank Limited. He retired from the Bangladesh Army in 2006 following a lobbying effort against him by General Moeen U Ahmed. Begum Khaleda Zia (born August–September 1945) is a Bangladeshi politician who served as the prime minister of Bangladesh from 1991 to 1996 and again from 2001 to 2006. The United Nations Iran–Iraq Military Observer Group (UNIIMOG) was a United Nations commission created during the Iran–Iraq War by the United Nations Security Council in Resolution 619 of August 9, 1988. The withdrawal of UNIIMOG forces in 1991 marked the official end to the Iran–Iraq War. Mission statement The goal of UNIIMOG was to monitor, since August 1988, the armistice held between both parties, which was drawn following Security Council Resolution 598 of July 20, 1987. United Nations Mission In Sudan
The United Nations Mission in the Sudan (UNMIS) was established by the UN Security Council under Resolution 1590 of 24 March 2005, in response to the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement between the government of the Sudan and the Sudan People's Liberation Movement on 9 January 2005. UNMIS tasks are to support the implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement, to perform certain functions relating to humanitarian assistance, protection, promotion of human rights, and to support the African Union Mission in Sudan.
