Fazil Marija
Fazil Marija (born 4 December 1985) is a former rugby union player of Sri Lanka. Marija is known as one of Sri Lanka's finest rugby union players and one of Asia's best. He was the former captain of the Sri Lanka national rugby union team. Marija comes from a sporting family background, with at least 17 members through two generations having represented various Clubs, Services Teams and National Rugby teams during the past four decades. Marija hails from the hill capital Kandy. Marija retired from rugby union after the Clifford Cup knockouts, and his last match at Nittawela grounds was played on 11 February 2018. In 2019 Marija was appointed as the head coach of Kandy SC School Rugby Marija mastered his Rugby skills at Kingswood College, Kandy which is the first school to introduce schoolboy rugby to Sri Lanka back in the 1890s. Kingswood College, Kandy
Kingswood College, Kandy () is a State school, public Day school, day and Boarding school, boarding school for boys in Kandy, Sri Lanka. The school educates over 3,500 students from Primary education, primary to Secondary education, secondary levels and is staffed by more than 300 faculty members. It was founded by Louis Edmund Blaze on 4 May 1891 with the aim of providing education grounded in Methodist principles. Initially opened with just eleven students at Pavilion Street, the school later relocated to Randles Hill. It is one of the List of the oldest schools in Sri Lanka, oldest schools in Kandy and is commonly known as KCK. Christian Cullen
Christian Mathias Cullen (born 12 February 1976) is a retired New Zealand rugby union player. He played most of his rugby at fullback for New Zealand (the All Blacks), for the Hurricanes in the Super 12, and for Manawatu, Wellington and later Munster at provincial level. He was nicknamed the '' Paekakariki Express'' and was considered to be one of the most potent running fullbacks rugby has ever seen. Rugby union in Sri Lanka is mainly played at a semi-professional and recreational level. It is a popular team sport with a history dating back to 1879. In 2012, according to International Rugby Board figures, there were over 160,000 registered rugby union players in Sri Lanka, making it the second largest rugby-playing nation in Asia, behind Japan. Governing body The Sri Lankan Rugby Football Union (SLRFU) is the governing body in the country. The Sri Lankan Football Union (as Ceylon Rugby Football Union) was founded in 1908, the first Rugby Union in Asia. The SLRFU joined the IRB in 1988. Sudharshana Muthuthanthri
Sudharshana Muthuthanthri or Sudarshana Muthuthanthri (born 25 August 1991) is a Sri Lankan rugby player and the current captain of the Sri Lanka national rugby union team. He replaced former captain, Fazil Marija as the new skipper of the Sri Lankan rugby union team in 2015. He played schoolboy rugby at S. Thomas' College, Mount Lavinia between 2009-2010 as a flanker. He then went on to play for Havelock Sports Club where he became vice captain in 2012 under Henry Terrance when Havelocks won the Dialog Rugby League. Muthuthanthri took over the captaincy of the club in 2013 where the team finished runner-up. In 2014 under his leadership Havelocks ended up third. He currently plays for Colombo Hockey and Football Club in the Dialog Rugby League. His usual position is Flanker, but can also switch to Number 8. The 2015 Asian Rugby Championship division tournaments refers to the divisions played within the annual Asian Rugby Championship rugby union tournament. The Asian Rugby Championship replaced the Asian Five Nations tournament. ''The Sunday Times'' is a weekly Sri Lankan broadsheet initially published by the now defunct Times Group, until 1991, when it was taken over by Wijeya Newspapers. The paper features articles of journalists such as defence columnist Iqbal Athas and Ameen Izzadeen. The daily counterpart of the Sri Lankan ''Sunday Times'' is the '' Daily Mirror''. The 2014 Commonwealth Games (), officially known as the XX Commonwealth Games and commonly known as Glasgow 2014 (; ), were an international multi-sport event celebrated in the tradition of the Commonwealth Games as governed by the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF). Blues (Super Rugby)
The Blues (; known as the Auckland Blues from 1996 to 1999) are a New Zealand professional rugby union team based in Auckland, who play in the Super Rugby competition.
