Fazeelat Aslam
Fazeelat Aslam is a Pakistani documentary filmmaker and journalist based in New York City. She is also co-producer of the Academy Award-winning documentary ''Saving Face (2012 film), Saving Face''. Early life and career Fazeelat was born in Lahore, Pakistan. Later her family moved to Zambia and then to Karachi. She attended high school in London and graduated from Wellesley College in the United States, where she double majored in Media Studies and Gender Studies. Fazeelat returned to Pakistan and started a career as a news anchor at National News prior to joining Dawn News. Shortly after, she left the company to create documentaries. Fazeelat has produced documentaries for international organizations including PBS Frontline, Channel 4 UK and HBO. She worked as a producer and correspondent for the second season of Vice (TV series), Vice documentary on HBO. Dawn News
Dawn News is one of Pakistan's 24-hour Urdu news channel. Based in Karachi, the station is a subsidiary of Pakistan Herald Publications Limited (PHPL), Pakistan's largest English-language media group. The test transmission of the station occurred on 25 May 2007, and the channel went live on 23 July 2007. Originally broadcast in English, on 15 May 2010, Dawn News converted into an Urdu news channel after successful test transmission of four hours a day. Syeda Ghulam Fatima
Syeda Ghulam Fatima is a Pakistani human and labour rights activist, known for her work in ending bonded labour in brick kilns, and is General Secretary of Lahore-based Bonded Labour Liberation Front Pakistan (BLLF). Biography Fatima holds a master's degree in Political Science from Punjab University. She has been campaigning for worker's rights and against bonded labour in Pakistani brick factories, kilns. She has been threatened, attacked, and wounded because of her activism. Through her organization, the Bonded Labour Liberation Front, Fatima has established Freedom Centers where workers can go for protection and legal counsel. She is the elected General Secretary of Bonded Labour Liberation Front Pakistan. Alongside her husband, Fatima runs BLLF from a storefront in Lahore. Bonded Labour
Debt bondage, also known as debt slavery, bonded labour, or peonage, is the pledge of a person's services as security for the repayment for a debt or other obligation. Where the terms of the repayment are not clearly or reasonably stated, the person who holds the debt has thus some control over the laborer, whose freedom depends on the undefined debt repayment. The services required to repay the debt may be undefined, and the services' duration may be undefined, thus allowing the person supposedly owed the debt to demand services indefinitely. Debt bondage can be passed on from generation to generation. Currently, debt bondage is the most common method of enslavement with an estimated 8.1 million people bonded to labour illegally as cited by the International Labour Organization in 2005.
