Fattah-1
Fattah-1 () is an Iranian hypersonic medium-range ballistic missile developed by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and unveiled in June 2023. According to Iran, its high maneuverability and speed helps it to evade missile defense systems. In November 2023, Iran unveiled a newer version of the missile, Fattah-2. The missile has been reported to have the capability to carry nuclear warheads should Iran further pursue its nuclear program. Description According to Iran, it can maneuver in and out of the atmosphere, and is capable of bypassing missile defenses. History On 10 November 2022, during the 11th anniversary of the death of Hassan Tehrani Moghaddam, known as the "father of Iranian missiles", Iran announced it has built an advanced hypersonic ballistic missile calling it a "major generational leap". Brigadier General Amir Ali Hajizadeh, IRGC Aerospace Force commander, said the missile has a high velocity and can maneuver below and above the Earth's atmosphere. He ...

October 2024 Iranian Strikes Against Israel
On 1 October 2024, Iran launched about 200 ballistic missiles at targets in Israel, in at least two waves, then the largest attack during the ongoing 2024 Iran–Israel conflict, Iran–Israel conflict. Iran's codename for the attack was Operation True Promise II (). It was the second direct attack by Iran against Israel, the first being the April 2024 Iranian strikes against Israel, April 2024 strikes. Iran claimed that the attack was an act of "self-defense" in Reprisal, retaliation for Israel's assassinations of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran, Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, and Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, IRGC general Abbas Nilforoushan. The attacks, while more successful at saturating Air Defense Command (Israel), Israeli air defenses than in April, did not appear to cause extensive damage. Israel said it had shot down most of the missiles and there had been no harm to its Israeli Air Force, Air Force's capabilities. The United States Navy, US Navy and J ...

Hypersonic Weapon
A hypersonic weapon is a weapon capable of maneuvering at hypersonic speed, defined as above Mach 5, or above 5 times the speed of sound. Below Mach 1, weapons would be characterized as subsonic, and above Mach 1, as supersonic. At extremely high speeds, air in the shock wave is ionized into a plasma, which makes control and communication difficult. Categorization There are three main categories of hypersonic weapon: # Boost-glide weapons, which glide and maneuver at hypersonic speeds following boosting by rocket propulsion. Examples include ballistic missiles fitted with hypersonic glide vehicle warheads. # Airbreathing weapons, typically hypersonic cruise missiles which maintain hypersonic speed by engines such as scramjets. # Gun-launched weapons, projectiles fired from either a conventional artillery or prospective railguns. Existing weapon systems such as ballistic missiles already travel at hypersonic speeds (and may actually reach their target sooner w ...

Amir Ali Hajizadeh
Brigadier General Amir Ali Hajizadeh (; 28 February 1962 – 13 June 2025) was an Iranian military officer who served as the commander of the IRGC Aerospace Forces, a position he held from October 2009 until his assassination in June 2025 by an Israeli airstrike. Early life Hajizadeh was born in Tehran on 28 February 1962. Career During Eghtedar-e Velayat war games, on 8 March 2016, Hajizadeh said: "the reason we designed our missiles with a range of 2,000 km is to be able to hit our enemies from a safe distance." Hajizadeh was also one of the main figures in Iran who led and executed the April 2024 Iranian strikes against Israel, known in Iran as Operation True Promise and October 2024 Iranian strikes against Israel, known in Iran as Operation True Promise 2. On 1 July 2024, he stated: "We are hopeful of the arrival of the opportunity for onductingOperation True Promise 2..." and spoke of his wish to have another chance to launch a large-scale attack on Israel. Surface-to-surface Missiles Of Iran
A surface-to-surface missile (SSM) is a missile designed to be launched from the ground or the sea and strike targets on land or at sea. They may be fired from hand-held or vehicle mounted devices, from fixed installations, or from a ship. They are often powered by a rocket engine or sometimes fired by an explosive charge, since the launching platform is typically stationary or moving slowly. They usually have fins and/or wings for lift and stability, although hyper-velocity or short-ranged missiles may use body lift or fly a ballistic trajectory. The first operational surface-to-surface missile was the V-1 flying bomb, it was powered by a pulsejet engine. Contemporary surface-to-surface missiles are usually guided. An unguided surface-to-surface missile is usually referred to as a rocket (for example, an RPG-7 or M72 LAW is an anti-tank rocket), whereas a BGM-71 TOW or AT-2 Swatter is an anti-tank guided missile. Examples of surface-to-surface missile include the MGM-140 AT ...

Maneuverable Reentry Vehicle
The maneuverable reentry vehicle (abbreviated MARV or MaRV) is a type of warhead for ballistic missile, ballistic missiles that is capable of maneuvering and changing its trajectory. There are two general reasons to use MARV. One is to make it more difficult to track the Atmospheric entry, re-entry vehicle (RV) and thereby make it more difficult to attack as it approaches its target. This was particularly useful against early anti-ballistic missile (ABM) systems which took seconds to calculate an interception course. Making random trajectory changes could render these systems useless. This class of MARV is sometimes known as evading MaRVs. The other is to improve accuracy or track moving targets using terminal guidance systems that can act only during the last stages of the flight. This class is sometimes known as accuracy MaRVs. In this case, it is the short range of the active guidance system that demands the RV be able to maneuver, as is the base in the Pershing II active rad ...

Hypersonic Glide Vehicle
A hypersonic glide vehicle (HGV) is a type of warhead for ballistic missiles that can maneuver and glide at hypersonic speed. It is used in conjunction with ballistic missiles to significantly change their trajectories after launch. Conventional ballistic missiles follow a predictable ballistic trajectory and are vulnerable to interception by the latest anti-ballistic missile (ABM) systems. The in-flight maneuverability of HGVs makes them unpredictable, allowing them to effectively evade air defenses. , hypersonic glide vehicles are the subject of an arms race. Projects China * DF-ZF Mach 5–10 * DF-27 France * VMaX (first flight test took place on June 26, 2023 from the DGA's site in Biscarrosse and was successful) * VMaX-2 (under development; first flight test expected in 2024 or 2025) India * LRAShM (under development) * BM-04 (under development) Japan * Hyper Velocity Gliding Projectile (HVGP) (under development) North Korea * Hwasong-8. * Hwason ...

The attack was codenamed by Iran as Operation True Promise (). Iran said it was retaliation for the Israeli airstrike on the Iranian consulate in Damascus, Israeli bombing of the Iranian embassy in Damascus on 1 April, which killed two Iranian generals. The strike was seen as a Middle Eastern crisis (2023–present), spillover of the Gaza war and marked Iran's first direct attack on Israel since the start of Iran–Israel proxy conflict, their proxy conflict. Several countries in the Middle East closed their airspace a few hours before Iran laun ...
