Fatmir Gjata
Fatmir Gjata (1922–1989) was a prominent Albanian writer of Socialist Realism. Life Fatmir Gjata was born in Korçë, Albania, in 1922. His father, Isuf Gjata, was a teacher who joined the National Liberation Movement during World War II and fell in 1944. Fatmir Gjata studied in the French Lyceum of Korçë and later he attended the Maxim Gorky Literature Institute in Moscow. As a communist and a poet, he wrote several poetry volumes during World War II and later, some of which would become known partisan songs. During the war he was in charge of a local illegal newspaper. His poetry was embroidered with march-style enthusiasm and solemn lexicology. He would claim his place in Albanian literature during 1950-90 period with his novels, theatrical plays, short story volumes and screenplays, some of which would turn into films such as ''Tana'', the first Albanian movie. Communist Albania
The People's Socialist Republic of Albania ( sq, Republika Popullore Socialiste e Shqipërisë, links=no) was the Marxist–Leninist one party state that existed in Albania from 1946 to 1992 (the official name of the country was the People's Republic of Albania from 1946 until 1976 and the Republic of Albania from 1991 until its dissolution in 1992). From 1944 to 1946, the state of Albania was known as the Democratic Government of Albania. During this time period, the country was ruled by Enver Hoxha and the Party of Labour of Albania. They ruled Albania by establishing a Albanian stalinist style of state administration and adhering to policies which stressed national unity and self-reliance. Albanian (endonym: or ) is an Indo-European language and an independent branch of that family of languages. It is spoken by the Albanians in the Balkans and by the Albanian diaspora, which is generally concentrated in the Americas, Europe and Oceania. Sterjo Spasse ( mk, Стерјо Спасе) (14 August 1914 – 12 September 1989) was an Albanian prose writer and novelist. Life Sterjo Spasse was born in 1914 in Gollomboç, Pustec Municipality, Korçë District, Albania, of Macedonian Slav descent. Spasse pursued the elementary school in Korçë, and later, the Shkolla Normale e Elbasanit. He worked as a teacher in Derviçan, in the Dropull region, and then went to the University of Florence, Italy to study Pedagogy. He also pursued a master in literature in the Soviet Union. Along his various contributions in the pedagogic field and translations, his main fieldwork was creative writing, which started in the 1930s. ''Hosteni'' (''The Goad'') is a satire magazine, published in Albania. History and profile Founded in 1945, during communist Albania, it is said that it was named ''Hosteni'' by Nako Spiru, a young communist politician, then general secretary of the Labour Youth Union of Albania. It was the only satire magazine in the country. Its long-term director was Niko Nikolla, followed in 2010 by Pëllumb Vreka. The magazine was issued monthly and was very loved by its readers in its heyday (1960s and 1970s), when it sold up to 30 thousand copies. As of 2010 it was issued only 4 times a year for around 5-6 thousand copies. ''Drita'' (''Drita'' meaning "the light" in English) is an Albanian literary magazine published by the Association of the Young Modern Artists of Albania ( sq, Shoqëria e Artistëve të Rinj Modernë). ''Drita'' was one of the first magazines in the Albanian language. It has been published for 127 years with some interruptions. History: 1883-1922 ''Drita'' was one of the first newspapers published in Albanian. It was initially printed in Istanbul, Turkey (then Ottoman Empire) in 1883 for the first time. The Central Committee for Defending Albanian Rights, the Society for the Publication of Albanian Writings and their president, Sami Frashëri, were the main contributors of the magazine, however their identity was secret at that time.
