Fatim Diarra
Fatim Winshett El Habib Diarra (born 1986 Helsinki) is a Finnish politician. She has been a city councilor in Helsinki since 2017, and was elected Chair of the City Council of Helsinki in June 2021. She served as a deputy chairperson of her party Green League from 2019 to 2021. Diarra chairs Naisasialiitto Unioni, the oldest feminist organization in Finland, and in June 2021 she was elected to the Board of Administration of the European Women’s Lobby (EWL). She is active also in the Black Lives Matter movement and for body positivity. The Green League (VIHR, fi, Vihreä liitto , sv, Gröna förbundet), shortened to the Greens ( fi, Vihreät, sv, De Gröna), is a green political party in Finland. Ideologically, the Green League is positioned on the centre-left of the political spectrum. It is a reformist party and it is supportive of feminism, animal rights and green liberal ideas. Originally split on whether Finland should join the European Union, the Green League is pro-European and was the first Finnish party in favor of the federalisation of the European Union. The City Council of Helsinki (, ) is the main decision-making organ in the local politics of Helsinki, Finland. The City Council deals with issues such as city planning, schools, health care, and public transport. The 85-seat Council's members are elected every four years in municipal elections. Naisasialiitto Unioni (Finnish) or Kvinnosaksförbundet Unionen (Swedish), sometimes referred to in English as the League of Finnish Feminists, is a non-profit Finnish women's organization which was established in 1892. Since 1904 it has been the Finnish arm of the International Alliance of Women. The co-founders were Lucina Hagman, Maikki Friberg and Venny Soldan-Brofeldt. Unioni was initially concerned with women's voting rights (granted in 1906), equal pay, education and combatting prostitution.
