''The Absent One'' (), also known as ''Department Q: The Absent One'', is a 2014 Danish crime mystery film directed by Mikkel Nørgaard and co-written by Nikolaj Arcel and Rasmus Heisterberg, based on Jussi Adler-Olsen's novel of the same name. It is the second film in the Department Q series following the 2013 film ''The Keeper of Lost Causes'', and preceding the 2016 film '' A Conspiracy of Faith''. Plot The story centers around the murder of twins in 1994, one of whom was also raped. At first unwilling to get involved in the case, Mørck changes his mind after their father commits suicide after approaching him one night and leaving behind a box of material on the case he has been collecting for years. Dept Q's investigation leads away from the young man originally convicted, towards a group of students from a nearby boarding school who became pillars of the Danish establishment. ''Department Q'' () is a series of ten Danish Nordic noir crime novels by author Jussi Adler-Olsen which have been adapted in an ongoing series of highly successful Danish films and a Scottish television adaptation for Netflix. Jussi Adler-Olsen
Carl Valdemar Jussi Henry Adler-Olsen (born 2 August 1950) is a Denmark, Danish crime fiction writer, a publisher, editor, and entrepreneur, best known for his ''Department Q'' series. He made his debut as a nonfiction writer in 1984, and as a fiction writer in 1997. Biography Born in Copenhagen, he was the youngest of four children and the only boy. Son of the successful sexologist and psychiatrist Henry Olsen, he spent his childhood with his family in doctors' official residences at several mental hospitals across Denmark. In his late teens, he played in a couple of pop groups as lead guitarist. He graduated from high school in Rødovre (1970), and studied medicine, sociology (passed History of Modern Politics), and film making (exam.art.) until 1978. Louise Vesth (born 18 March 1973) is a Danish film producer . Her short film '' Om natten'' was nominated for an Oscar in the category Best Short Film in 2008. Early life Louise Vesth graduated from the Aarhus School of Business with a bachelor's degree in economics in 1995 . Johanne Louise Schmidt (born 16 October 1983) is a Danish actress who has performed on both stage and in film. Peter Aalbæk Jensen (born 8 April 1956 in Osted) is a Denmark, Danish film producer who in 1992 with director Lars von Trier founded the Danish film company Zentropa and later its huge studio complex Filmbyen.
