Edmond Farhat
Edmond Farhat (20 May 1933 – 17 December 2016) was a Lebanese prelate of the Catholic Church who spent his career in the diplomatic service of the Holy See. Biography Farhat was born in Ain Kfaa, Lebanon, on 20 May 1933. On 28 March 1959, the Maronite Patriarch of Antioch Paul Peter Meouchi ordained him a priest. He earned degrees in theology, philosophy and canon law in Paris and Rome and a doctorate in theology. From 1967 to 1989 he worked as undersecretary of the Synod of Bishops in Rome and from 1970 to 1989 as Professor of Islamic Law at the University of Sassari. On 26 August 1989, Pope John Paul II appointed him Apostolic Delegate to Libya, Apostolic Pro-Nuncio to Tunisia and Algeria, and titular archbishop of Byblus. Farhat Square
Farhat Square (Sahat Farhat) is one of the oldest city square, squares in the Syrian city of Aleppo. It is located in the old Al-Jdayde, Jdeydeh District, outside the historic walls of the Ancient City of Aleppo. Farhat Square is a symbolic area of Christianity in Aleppo as three cathedrals are located there: Greek Catholic, Armenian and Maronite. Churches have been in the area since the 15th Century. It was named after Bishop Gabriel Germanos Farhat (1670-1732) who was Maronite Bishop of Aleppo between 1725-1732 and founded the Maronite Library of Aleppo. Sahat Farhat was named in his honor and his statue was placed in the square in 1932 to commemorate the 200th anniversary of his death. The square and the buildings around it have been damaged by heavy fighting between combatants during the Battle of Aleppo (2012–16). Hormoz Farhat (; 9 August 1928 – 16 August 2021) was a Persian-American composer and ethnomusicologist who spent much of his career in Dublin, Ireland. An emeritus professor of music, he was a fellow of Trinity College, Dublin. Edward George Farhat (June 7, 1926 – January 18, 2003) was an American professional wrestler, better known by his ring name The Sheik.
