Fantas
''Fantas'' is a 2024 Canadian French-language short film directed by Halima Elkhatabi. The film follows Tania, who decides to take her horse Fantas to the city and introduce it to some friends in the working-class neighbourhood where she and her family live. The film had its world premiere in Short Cuts at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival as part of Short Cuts 2024 Programme 1, on September 6, 2024. The film was selected in the Generation 14plus section at the 75th Berlin International Film Festival, where it will have its International premiere on 19 February 2025. Synopsis Tania sets out to introduce her horse, Fantas, to her friends in her working-class neighborhood. By sharing her passion, she hopes to bridge two parts of her life that have always remained separate. As these worlds collide, an unexpected urban tale unfolds—one tinged with a hint of the surreal. The Festival du nouveau cinéma or FNC (English: ''Festival of New Cinema'') is an annual independent film festival held in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, featuring independent films from around the world. Over 160,000 people attend each year. One of the oldest film festivals in Canada, it is an Academy Award-qualifying festival for short films. Although the festival screens a variety of films by both new and established filmmakers, including many of the same high-profile films screening at other film festivals in the same year, its core programs are the national and international competitions, which present a variety of awards for both feature and short films by emerging Canadian and international directors. Canadian Screen Award For Best Live Action Short Drama
The Canadian Screen Award for Best Live Action Short Drama is awarded by the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television to the best Canadian live action short film. Formerly part of the Genie Awards, since 2012 it has been presented as part of the Canadian Screen Awards. In the 1980s and 1990s, the award was not always presented at every Genie Award ceremony. In years when the award was not presented, a single award was instead presented for Best Theatrical Short Film, inclusive of both animated and live-action shorts. 13th Canadian Screen Awards
The 13th Canadian Screen Awards were presented by the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television from 30 May to 1 June 2025, to honour achievements in Canadian film, television and digital media production in 2024.
