Fancies
''Fancies'' is a cycle of six choral settings by John Rutter, created around whimsical themes and based on text from poets such as Shakespeare, Thomas Campion (1567–1620), Edward Lear (1812–1888) and others. The collection was originally written in 1971. Rutter recorded a recording with other compositions which was rereleased in 2005. Five Childhood Lyrics
''Five Childhood Lyrics'' is a choral composition by John Rutter, who set five texts, poems and nursery rhymes, for mixed voices (SATB with some divisi) a cappella. Rutter composed the work for the London Concord Singers who first performed them in 1973. The five movements are: # Monday's Child # The Owl and the Pussycat # Windy Nights # Matthew, Mark, Luke and John # Sing a Song of Sixpence The first song is based on "Monday's Child", a fortune-telling song and nursery rhyme. The text of the second song is "The Owl and the Pussycat", a nonsense-poem by Edward Lear published in 1871. The third song is based on a poem, " Windy Nights", by Robert Louis Stevenson. The text for the fourth song is " Matthew, Mark, Luke and John", a nursery rhyme and evening prayer. The fifth song uses the nursery rhyme "Sing a Song of Sixpence". Suite Antique
''Suite Antique'' is a 1979 concertante work by John Rutter that is written for harpsichord, flute and string orchestra A string orchestra is an orchestra consisting solely of a string section made up of the bowed strings used in Western Classical music. The instruments of such an orchestra are most often the following: the violin, which is divided into first a .... Rutter composed the piece, in six movements, for a concert at which Bach's fifth Brandenburg concerto was to be performed, and so decided to write the piece for the same ensemble. One of Rutter's most popular orchestral works, it has become an important standard in contemporary flute repertoire and been recorded several times by Rutter and others. Rutter later arranged the musical content of Suite Antique for harp and strings, and published it in 2011 as ''Suite Lyrique''. Cambridge Singers
The Cambridge Singers is an English mixed voice chamber choir formed in 1981 by their director John Rutter with the primary purpose of making recordings under their own label Collegium Records. The group initially comprised former singers from the Choir of Clare College, Cambridge, where Rutter had previously been the music director. They have been involved in the last four Fresh Aire albums (about "mankind's curiosities") of the Mannheim Steamroller band, by composer Chip Davis, but they are primarily a classical choral group.
