Famous Players Theatres
Famous Players Limited Partnership was a Canadian-based subsidiary of Cineplex Entertainment. As an independent company, it existed as a film exhibitor and cable television service provider. Famous Players operated numerous movie theatre locations in Canada from British Columbia to Newfoundland and Labrador. The company was owned by Viacom Canada but was sold to Cineplex Galaxy LP (now Cineplex Entertainment) in 2005. The Famous Players brand name and its sub-banners continued to be used in the majority of its theatres until 2022 when Cineplex phased out the name in favour of the "Cineplex Cinemas" banner, although the SilverCity name continues to be used. Stanley Industrial Alliance Stage
The Stanley Industrial Alliance Stage (formerly the Stanley Theatre) is a landmark theatre at 12th Avenue and Granville Street in Vancouver, British Columbia, which serves as the main stage for the Arts Club Theatre Company. The Stanley first opened as a movie theater, movie theatre in December 1930 and showed movies for over sixty years before falling revenues led to its closure in 1991. Uptown Theatre (Toronto)
The Uptown Theatre was a historic movie theatre in Toronto, Ontario which was demolished in 2003. The entrance to the theatre was located on Yonge Street just south of Bloor Street, Bloor. Like many theatres of the time (including the Elgin & Winter Garden Theatre) it was constructed so that only the entrance was on a major thoroughfare while the main building fronted on a side street. Ed Mirvish Theatre
The CAA Ed Mirvish Theatre is a historic performing arts theatre in Toronto, Ontario, located in the Garden District, near Sankofa Square. Owned and operated by Mirvish Productions, the theatre has approximately 2,300 seats across two levels. There are two entrances to the theatre, located at 263 Yonge Street and 244 Victoria Street. Opened in August 1920, the theatre was designed by Thomas W. Lamb to host vaudeville performances and films. The theatre was originally named the Pantages Theatre, after its first manager and theatre magnate Alexander Pantages (1867–1936).
