Family First Party (2021)
The Family First Party (FFP) is an Australian political party based in South Australia, founded in 2021 by former state Labor ministers Jack Snelling and Tom Kenyon. As of March 2022, the former managing director of the Australian Christian Lobby (ACL), Lyle Shelton is the party's National Director. Opposing abortion and euthanasia are regarded as some of the party's key policies. History Original Family First Party The Family First Party previously existed as a political party in Australia, founded in 2002 by Andrew Evans, who won a seat in the South Australian Legislative Council at the state election that year. Lyle Shelton (lobbyist)
Lyle Shelton is an Australian politician and lobbyist who has served as the national director of the Family First Party since May 2022. Shelton previously served as managing director of the Australian Christian Lobby (ACL) from 2013 to 2018, and was one of the leaders of the "No" campaign in the Australian Marriage Law Postal Survey. In 2018, he resigned from the ACL to become the federal communications director of the Australian Conservatives. Early life Lyle Shelton was born in South Burnett, Queensland. Career Shelton was at one time the youth pastor on the staff of Toowoomba City Church. He served on Toowoomba City Council from 2000 to 2006. The South Australian Liberal Party, officially known as the Liberal Party of Australia (South Australian Division), and often shortened to SA Liberals, is the South Australian Division of the Liberal Party of Australia. Cory Bernardi (born 6 November 1969) is an Australian conservative political commentator and former politician. He was a Senator for South Australia from 2006 to 2020, and was the leader of the Australian Conservatives, a minor political party he founded in 2017 but disbanded in 2019. Robert John Day (born 5 July 1952) is an Australian former politician and businessman who was a Senator for South Australia from 1 July 2014 to 1 November 2016. He is a former federal chairman of the Family First Party. Before entering politics, he worked in the housing industry, owning several businesses, and at one stage serving as president of the Housing Industry Association. Day was the Liberal Party's candidate for the federal seat of Makin at the 2007 election, but resigned from the party after failing to gain preselection for the 2008 Mayo by-election. He subsequently joined the Family First Party and was their candidate for the by-election, later becoming their lead Senate candidate in South Australia at the 2010 election and 2013 election. Australian Conservatives was a conservative political party in Australia formed in 2017. It was led by Cory Bernardi, who had been elected to the Senate for the Liberal Party, but resigned citing disagreements with the Liberal/National Coalition, its policies and leadership under Malcolm Turnbull. The Family First Party and its two state parliamentarians, Dennis Hood and Robert Brokenshire, joined the Australian Conservatives. Brokenshire was not re-elected at the 2018 state election, and Hood left the Conservatives to join the Liberal Party, leaving Bernardi as the sole remaining member in federal parliament, whose term in the senate ran until 30 June 2022.
