Familia (theatre Company)
Jalila Baccar (; born 1952) is a Tunisian playwright and actor. Early life and education Baccar was born in Tunis on 23 November 1952. She became interested in drama while at school. Career When she graduated from school she joined a regional theatre company in Gafsa, an oasis and mining community in the south-west of Tunisia. She and the company's co-director tried to modernise the company but met with resistance both from their fellow actors and from the authorities. They moved back to Tunis in 1976 and established their own company, Almasrah al-jadid: The New Theatre, the first independent professional theatre company in Tunisia. In 1993 Baccar and Jaïbi established a new company, Familia. Their play ''Junun'' (''Dementia'') was staged at Avignon in the 2002 Festival. In 2003, she won the SACD Prize for Francophonie for ''Araberlin''. AK Comics is an Egyptian-based superhero comic publishing company, and the first large scale production of the genre in the Middle East. The company was founded by Ayman Kandeel. Dærick Gröss Sr. is the editor-in-chief; Waleed Al-Telbany is the art director; Mohie El-Dein Sideiq is the Arabic-language editor and Sara Kareem is the English-language editor of the company. AK Comics first began publishing monthly titles in 2004, and its comics are produced in both Arabic and English. The comics are collectively titled ''Middle East Heroes''. Overview As explained in the first inside page of various issues, the intention of AK Comics is "to fill the cultural gap created over the years by providing essentially Arab role models, in our case, Arab superheroes, to become a source of pride to our young generations."
