LaDonna Adrian Gaines (December 31, 1948May 17, 2012), known professionally as Donna Summer, was an American singer and songwriter. She gained prominence during the disco era of the 1970s and became known as the "Honorific nicknames in popular music, Queen of Disco", while her music gained a global following. Influenced by the counterculture of the 1960s, Summer became the lead singer of a psychedelic rock band named Crow and moved to New York City. In 1968, she joined a German adaptation of the musical ''Hair (musical), Hair'' in Munich, where she spent several years living, acting, and singing. Recorded over a period of two years since signing with the Sony Music label in 2006, ''Crayons'' marked Summer's first full-length studio album in fourteen years since 1994's '' Christmas Spirit'', and her first album of original material since 1991's ''Mistaken Identity''.
