Falsterbo (, outdatedly ) is a town located at the south-western tip of Sweden in Vellinge Municipality in Skåne. Falsterbo is situated in the southern part of the Falsterbo peninsula. History Falsterbo historically enjoyed trading privileges with the Hanseatic League. During the Middle Ages, it was a rich and prestigious town owing to its location in a center of trade and herring fishery. On the beach between Falsterbo and neighboring town Skanör was the Scania Market where merchants from various parts of Europe had fixed market places. Scania Market was a major fish market which took place annually starting about 1200. Falsterbo Lighthouse
Falsterbo Lighthouse () . To the north-east of the lighthouse is the city of Skanör-Falsterbo, to the south-east of the lighthouse are some of the finest sandy beaches in Sweden and surrounding the lighthouse is the golf course of the Falsterbo Golf Club. History The sea route past the Falsterbo Headland has always been dangerous, because of the moving sand banks hidden under the sea. In 1230 the Dominikans from Lübeck sent a letter to the Danish king Valdemar with a request that a "mark" should be built to warn seafarers. There is no evidence that it was ever built. Most likely is that a prominent house at Falsterbo and The Church of Santa Maria were used as seamarks. In 1636, a lever light known as a "swape" light was built nearby at Kolabacken. An iron basket full of burning coal was hoisted up and down by a balanced bar, hence the light was moving and easier to detect. Måkläppen
Måkläppen is a nature reserve that protrudes from the Falsterbo peninsula in southwestern Sweden. It was created by sandbanks built on top of a moraine core. The Måkläppen nature reserve and nature conservation association was formed in 1899 through the efforts of conservationists including Paul Rosenius. The appearance of Måkläppen changes as sand builds up and is taken away by wind, ocean currents, storm surges and high tides. These processes, in addition to abrasion and coastal erosion, beach erosion, removes the sand previously sent there. Many kinds of Anseriformes, waterfowl nest at Måkläppen, and it is an important site for Harbor seal, harbor and grey seals. Because of the area's natural importance, no access is allowed from February to the end of October. Falsterbo Church (, also Falsterbo Gertrude the Great, St. Gertrud church ) is a medieval Lutheranism, Lutheran church at Falsterbo in Skåne County, Sweden. History and architecture The oldest part of the church dates from the second half of the 14th century. Construction of the relatively large church must be seen in connection with the economically important medieval herring-trade and the Scania Market (''Skänemarkedet''), in which Falsterbo and neighboring Skanör played a central role. The earliest church was a simple, undecorated brick building. The nave is the oldest part of the church. The present Choir (architecture), choir was added during the 15th century and at about the same time the presently visible Vault (architecture), vaulting was constructed. The 2010 Falsterbo Horse Show, the official Swedish show jumping horse show, was held between July 8 and July 11 as CSIO 5* and CDI 5*. The first horse show was held in 1920 in Falsterbo, and in 1969, the first show jumping derby was held here. FEI Nations Cup of Sweden The 2010 FEI Nations Cup of Sweden was part of the 2010 Falsterbo Horse Show. It was the fifth competition of the 2010 Meydan FEI Nations Cup. The 2010 FEI Nations Cup of Sweden was held on Friday, July 9, 2010, at 2:30 pm. The competing teams were: France, the United States of America, Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Ireland, Sweden, Great Britain, Spain and Poland.
